defintely if asik/howard combo works out, which i think it can. but if asik is docked to backup center and we bring in casspi or parsons as the starting 4, then it'll be hard to crack top 10. top 15 is mmore realistic

Frankly, I saw promise in our defense even last year. Of course, not at the "we can be the best defense in the league" level but I thought we were vastly underrated in terms of our defense and that individually most of our guys had good potential on defense. I've no doubt that our ceiling is number one is defense AND offence. Now, can we do it? Only if everyone plays selflessly and in sync, not the r****ded i'm gonna show everyone how good and improved I am crap I saw yesterday.

One point of observation, just my opinion: I don't like Casspi at all. He's got some skills but he plays way too selfishly for my taste and it's rubbing off on everyone as Casspi has been getting so much attention as he played without passing and the coaches (and fans) loved him. So, everyone seems to be feeling as if they should just shoot and get noticed. He's fool's gold imo. Garcia is not. Not doubting his talent, just worried. I saw TJones play selfishly as if showcasing himself in the preseason. Parsons yesterday. Lin here and there, doing too much. Harden, well, lol. We have to get the ball moving and trust me, I've played and coached for too long, when one player doesn't pass when he should, it's REAL easy to reciprocate creating dissension in a group awfully quick. Awfully quick.

^^Dwight/Asik can only cover it up at the rim against teams that can't shoot.

Great read. Tonight will be a great game for figuring out some of the bumps. The Mavs have an offense built to exploit us. Can't wait to watch it! And then watch it again. And one more time. And think more about how Omer can be used to set up Dwight in the post. Then I'll probably dream about x's and o's. And then wake up for some college football, but in the back of my mind... will be.. the Mavs game. Seriously though, great read.

we are one of the worst defensive team last year, even with Howard on board now, it's hard to believe we will become the best defensive team after an off season .
    love the optimism though :)

Rockets were 16th last year?.... with half a season of Pb and no Dwight. Add an improved Cp and Harden. No excuse for not having top 10

Rockets defense is easily exposable. We have good basket coverage now, but all that is needed is for an opposing team to go small with stretch 4 and or decent perimeter players, since our perimeter defense is utter garbage.

If Harden ever wants to be a top player in the NBA he needs to improve his defense significantly. He needs to start shutting guys down at the 3pt line. He can't do this, and until he does he will be just another glorified Gilbert Arenas.

I agree with the Harden part. I think he and JLin both are great at coming up with steals, but get taken to the basket too easily.

I think we will get a good look at what going small does to us tonight. Big test coming up.
