You and I know what the demand is here it but do these giant TV providers know? This is probably a small petty issue for them compared to other things they deal with.

It's the providers, this is the line in the sand they've decided to draw against the rising costs.

From what I heard on 610 earlier, They were talking like Dish Network only accepted half of the offer, and Directv straight up turned it down.

See this is why i don't get everybody being frustrated with Comcast, from what I can gather it's the other providers that are slowing this whole thing down.

In Dallas and we were in the same situation with Att and NBA League Pass and all they stated was we understand.

Att will not be bullied by anyone...

    So good luck....

It's the cost... In Dallas Att stated they would not make their customers pay the high cost that nba league pass was offering. So they held out for about 2 to 3 years.

I have a feeling this issue is going to get worst before it gets better....

It's most definitely CSN/Astros/Rockets (basically the Astros, since they seem to have nixed carriage agreements that the Rockets and CSN were cool with) at fault here. Not the providers, if you believe the documentation that has come out, the Astros want a VERY high per subscriber fee, and they want it for all of Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

As much as people on here love to talk about "the demand is there but the providers just don't know it"... the demand is not there, the demand is barely there in this city, there sure as **** isn't any demand OUTSIDE this city.

It is CSN that is the problem. They want the cable and satellite companies to carry the channel across 5 states.

Do you really think people in Arkansas give a crap about Rockets basketball or Astros baseball or U of H games? Of course not.

CSN wants 5 states to carry the channel because they can get more money from people in those other states.

But the cable and satellite companies say there isn't a chance in hell that they are going to charge people more money in a state like Arkansas to give them CSN... a channel they have no interest in.

Not only that, but the demand isn't there in the city of Houston itself to justify the price that CSN is charging. And CSN isn't budging on anything. It is all on CSN. I don't blame the cable and satellite companies one bit. CSN's demands are ridiculous.

That's because the ASTROS wanted that because technically they can do that while the NBA rules won't allow their teams to do the same.

You don't seem to be very informed on the matter. CSN had a deal with Direct TV that Jim Crane and the Astros turned down. That information was confirmed in court this week. Go to the Astros forum here and read the long thread devoted to the situation.

If the demand wasn't there, the freeview period would be the perfect time to prove it, heck the most likely situation we're heading to is csn packs up shop anyway and both teams go back to Fox.

If you read the article , it states that the Rockets were the ones top request this 45 day free pass .... Trying to get their product to the masses.

Seems to me its been the Disastro's who have been behind most of the issues keeping both teams out of a large portion of TV households

Im not so sure I agree with you here.

Cable providers pay for every channel they offer , this one would be no different.

Problem here has been that the Disastro's and Jim Crane want X and everyone else is willing to settle for Y.

The Disastro's stated they cant have a competitive payroll without getting X.

The Rockets can maintain a competitive payroll without the deal entirely.

Kind of hard for me to feel sorry for the Disastro's when they are making record profits from a team producing record numbers of L's.

Think about this from the providers prospective (DirecTV, Uverse, etc). Why in the world would they give a free preview to drive up their own subscribed viewers demand for this channel if they think the price is way too high. If they don't do it, yes some people will be mad, but not enough to switch providers as all the big providers are in the same boat. The current status quo is Comcast losing a lot of money on this TV deal and not gaining that many subscribers to compensate. They are essentially weakening a competitor by not giving in to the demand. DirecTV might be able to make a little money by providing this channel, but they get a lot more benefit if Comcast loses a lot of ground in the Houston market.
