I don't think you would find any knowledgeable fan of basketball who would take Howard over KG

    WHAT?

    WHATTTTTT?

    I really hope you're kidding.

Dwight is awesome. Might be a top 50-60 player of all time. KG is on a different level.

At this point in their careers and for the next 4 or so years Howard has to be the choice. The guy is 27, at the peak of his career and already has a spot reserved for him in the HOF. Davis? Who knows. But I will admit that this question is somewhat less stupid than "who do you take for the future LBJ or Davis?" But not by much.

It really was a tossup for me.

I like the fact Howard took his own Orlando team to the finals.

I'll get back with you in 5 years, Howard is still in his prime.

Howard for the next 4 years, then we'll get Davis. :)

OK I am a very knowledgeable fan and I would take Howard over KG every day of the week. KG is a complementary player. Howard is a franchise cornerstone. The Rockets this season will go as far as Howard can drag them.

Garnett dragged a terrible Minny roster to the conference finals in a much better conference.

I'm sorry. Dwight vs prime KG isn't even close. Unless you think prime Dwight completely clowns prime Yao as a player.

I think Garnett is the better player but I'd take Howard over him because Howard's skillset is much rarer. It's the same reason that prime Ben Wallace was probably the most valuable player in the NBA despite his underwhelming offensive stats. A great defensive big is so important but hard to quantify. I suspect that when defensive stats become more mainstream, these players will be better recognized.

    KG/CAssel/Sprewell. Hudson off the bench.

    They had a good team.

Kg was more skilled. Dwight was more dominant. Dwight was a better player than Yao. Dwight trashed 29 centers in the league not named Yao/Shaquille.
    Yao couldn't handle a front.

You're talking about defense as a point against Kevin Garnett?

    Ok.

KG is one of the best man defenders of all time but he was never the presence in the paint that Howard is (or take Ben Wallace as an even more extreme example). And those guys are the cornerstone of team defense. This is just underappreciated because until recently there haven't been numbers for this sort of thing.

Garnett is better and more impactful defender than Howard right now.

    Also, The brow is now.

    Anthony Davis.

He is just as good offensively/defensively except he isnt a liability at the free throw line.

Garnett completely shut off the paint just like Dwight did. He was a revolutionary defensive force. Hell, you can easily say Garnett was the most impactful defender in 2008 when Dwight won and Garnett was already declining. Defense between prime Dwight and Garnett is basically a wash.

I disagree. Garnett is a great defender but 2008 was all about Thibs and defense by committee. You never saw that kind of impact in Minny. Dwight consistently puts up the best defensive stats since Dwight Howard, and he took an Orlando Magic team with basically a bunch of stiff spot up shooters to the best defensive FG% in the NBA.

Are we saying for this year? Or are we saying for the rest of their careers?

If it's just this year (or maybe the next 2, 3) I would say Dwight, easily.

However if the Pellies called and wanted to swap I would do it in a heartbeat.
