He's just arguing semantics. People associate certain races with certain countries; just because exact words aren't used doesn't make any difference. Just replace Jews with Israel and black people with any African country. There is not way that would have made it past the production team.
For someone so sensitive to the African American plight how about some compassion to other minorities when they are the target of racism? Like others said, if JK aired about killing Jews or Blacks, the story would be in the news 24/7, and we would see several weeks of Al Sharpton, Quanell X, and Jessie Jackson giving each other circular HJs.
Or, the host isn't considered racist if a bunch of little kids say something stupid and the host makes fun of them for it.
The skit wasn't about minorities, it was about China. Comedians make jokes about Jews all the damn time.
I'm not sensitive about comedy skits by comedians, I understand the difference and apparently you don't.
As has been the case with most of these other instances, they should do what the advertisers tell them.
What? You don't joke about killing a person, much less an entire people. If Kimmel and kids commented about killing caucasian people, I'm certain he'd be fired. Joking about Asians being bad drivers or whatever stereotypes is no big deal. But you can't justify joking about killing people.
I am pretty certain that there is powerful resistance to the demand of equal civil rights for the Asians in this country. The people involved are always like this: when you raise a racial discrimination case against the Asians, they're always in denial. When you ask them what is racial discrimination against the Asians, they would never come up with one, i.e. it's like that simply does not exist. It's deeply embedded in their psyche and they want you, like them, suppress it and internalize it as much as possible. Asians, as a whole, are a weaker, minority political mass in this country. They are largely suppressed, demonized, marginalized and discriminated against in work places, in movies, TV programs and other mass media. They're desperately in need of a potent leadership. The Asians will never truly become a viable force in this country if they are not to be well organized to fight for their own rights. If you don't fight for yourself, nobody will. The Jimmy Kimmel incident is outrageous in a very very bad sense. Luckily, there will be more and more protests and law suits against ABC and Jimmy Kimmel in the coming week. All the naysayers can go to hell.
No, spontaneous or scripted, he "seduced" them to say so by "should they allowed to live". And he said "it's an interesting idea" following the kids' answer. Don't tell me "interesting" is an euphemism for"stupid" and "outlandish". Point is, the program should never been aired in the first place since the production team had plenty of time to edit it. Maybe they were just thinking, it's the Chinese and there would be no consequences what so ever.
There will be, I am telling you. It already happened in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles during the past week. You'll see the "firing LK" crowd in front of ABC Houston station in Bissonnet tomorrow noon. And other cities like Dallas, Atlanta, Miami and boston will follow the steps during the weekend.
Just reading that line made me laugh. I thought Jimmy had a few good jokes in there, especially the send-off.
