For the life of me I do not understand how NBA teams can draft a kid and not have a program in place to develop him the minute they draft him. The shooting hole in MKG's game is so huge that he has NO CHANCE to have success as a regular rotation player on a good team in this league. And that deficit in his game has gotten significantly WORSE over the first 2 training camps of his career.

When you draft a kid like this with such a huge issue..you've got to have a program in place to fix the problem before you draft him, and you'd better get his agreement to the program to fix the problem before you even consider taking him. This kid needed to be in the gym shooting 2000 jumpers a day with a shooting coach breaking down his mechanics and rebuilding him. They could have done that last summer and on into training camp. They could have done that this summer and on into training camp.

When I see guys like MKG my heart bleeds for them. Dude loves the game, plays as hard as anybody in the entire league, has tremendous drive, is a good kid...and yet....it's obvious that he's not had any professional coaching to help him develop a jumper. A former top 5 pick now not worth anything more on court than Chris Singleton. Simply because his weakness hasn't been addressed properly. I hate it.

MKG really should look to MJ for advice.

You hear of Hakeem publicly trying to help people not even playing for the Rockets, so I'm not sure why MJ can't take a few minutes out of his day to help MKG.

It's not like MJ is wheelin' and dealin' pieces to compete for the 'ship any time soon, anyway.

Charlotte did hire Mark Price, one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, as their shooting coach, and he's been working with MKG according to reports. This kind of stuff takes time and repetition, though. Also, MKG's shooting hitch is so significant that I think it'll take extra long if it's fixable at all. We talking some Chuck Hayes-Ronnie Brewer level strange shooting motion here.

His shooting is so bad he'll never become a good shooter even with training. How many players came into the league with no jump shot but retired with a great jump shot? The odds are stacked against him, especially on a team like the Bobcats.

Yes, you are 0% on it for sure. :(

Pretty widely reported about a year ago
Jordan’s participation started out with him showing Kidd-Gilchrist some post moves. It escalated into some one-on-one. Naturally, players started migrating over to form an audience.

They are currently working on his lower body position as the article alludes to. Price isn't concerned about the upper body movement at this point but wants him square to the basket and I was under the impression that upper body movement wasn't going to be addressed for some time.

Regardless, Charlotte is not "ruining" this guys career - they are putting a good deal of effort to making it whole. And so is MKG from what I have read. I assume his shot will probably look worse before it starts looking better.

Actually there was an article I read awhile back. MKG said over the summer he wouldn't change his mechanics because it was not about the look of the shot it was about the outcome. I think his stubborn approach is ridiculous, and the outcome of his shot seems pretty obvious. He is better of shooting left handed probably. But, it seems like it was his choice not to change his form.

So the player isn't responsible at all for his own game? Sure coaching helps, but you can't just blame coaches if a guy with that kind of talent sucks. At the end of the day, the player is responsible for his own game.

If he really wants to get better, he will seek out the proper guidance and put in the proper work. It's on the player, not the coaches.

Also, a player could get the best instruction in the world (and most NBA players get exactly that) but if the player doesn't have the drive, it's useless.

Disclaimer: I have no idea what kind of work he's put in the past two years or what kind of coaching he's received... just reacting to OP.

That's probably the teams fault, too, because they can't convince him to change it.

That's good. Great shooter. I'm sure Price can make a significant difference. But....tell me.....why did they wait until after MKG had went through 2 offseasons and preseasons??? This should have been done they day the drafted the kid and he should have been in the gym with Price the day after he signed his contract putting up 2000 reps....the right way. If they had done that at the start...MKG would be a significantly different player today.

Really makes me wonder how badly teams want to keep losing. There's other ways to lose besides costing a guy his career.

And if that is true...that should have been known before he was drafted and Charlotte should have made it a stipulation of drafting him. Tell him, "Look, we like you but your jumper is never going to work and you have to agree to our offseason coaching track to change your jumper or we're not drafting you." If he says "No", then the team lets that out of the bag and his draft stock plummets. He would have had no choice but to agree to an offseason regimen starting day 1 or it would have cost him millions of dollars.

I actually think that MKG is probably going to be aggressively shopped this year for the Feb deadline. I think Charlotte see's Evan Turner, and D. Williams as prime examples of why it might be the best thing for their team.

Its a shame cause all three of these guys are NBA players, but getting picked #2 is their downfall because of their contracts. Williams is making 8 million dollars in 2015/2016... that's ridiculous for a player who is essentially Matt Barnes without the edge.

MKG is probably going to end up on the same road as well where he might be looked down upon for good teams (with alot of salary) to commit to trading for. That's why its probably best if the Bobcats move him ASAP while he still has value.

They waited zero off-seasons to do this. They were working on his shot (Dunlap et al) from day one in Vegas in 2012 (believe he signed that same week SL began). Price was brought in in his first off-season, which was after the Clifford hire, prior to summer league and they began as soon as he (MKG) was done w/ the USA Basketball if not immediately before.

Recall, the whole idea of Coach Dunlap (which didn't work) was to bring him in to "develop" their young players. MKG's shot should have been right in his wheelhouse.

You are really contorting things to fit your point.

charlotte is a giant black hole. I'm pretty sure that even if Lebron was drafted by them we would have never seen him again.
