This is not a knee jerk thread... But if Howard can keep up a pace that's say 24+ points and about 13+ rebounds while the Rockets finish atleast 1 or 2 in the West, which I believe he's capable of doing, does he have a case for being the league MVP? If you think about it in terms of team value, does he not improve a Rockets team from the 8th seed warm up team to title contenders? What will it take for the big man to recieve MVP spotlight?
Dwight ain't scoring 24, but if he can get 20 and 18 and lead the Rockets to the first seed, then he has a chance no doubt.
You can't have one without the other. That is why Howard came here because we need both to win big in this league.
I highly doubt anyone takes the MVP away from LeBron. Dwight would need nearly 20 20 every night, Harden would need 25 5 5 or something close to it. BTW we'd have to be 1 or 2 seed to even get a chance.
True statement but at the end of the day 20 points and 15 rebounds with commanding interior defense (DPOY worthy), is more valuable than 24 points 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
he has a chance - i don't think LeBron will win it, primarily b/c i don't think the Heat will be a top 2 seed. And voters highly correlate MVP w/ team record. See: Nowitzki, Dirk. Or Robinson, David.
I've always said if Howard can get in the mid 20's range in points and post his usual numbers in the other areas, with us jumping to a top 3 seed, then he has a shot at the MVP.
The reality is that Harden and Howard will likely cannibalize each others' votes. For either to be in the MVP discussion, we probably have to be a top 3 team. Some voters would say "I think Harden got them there" and some would say "Howard had the biggest impact". So neither gets full votes, and neither wins.
Not unless the Rockets win 60+ games. And even then, there's a pretty good chance Howard and Harden siphon votes off of each other. It's a big reason Shaq and Kobe only won a single MVP award between the two of them during their time together.
lebron is a bum, he just let his team lose to philly. Now we really know its d-wade's team bc wade sat out last night and bron went back to not being able to win on his own
I'm sick of these Howard only fans. But, seriously, the only way he wins MVP is if Houston is a top 2 seed, wins their division, and if Howard's numbers are significantly better than Harden's. The people love scoring, so Harden will have the better shot at MVP, in my opinion.
I'll bet him over the field every year of his prime but of course there is always a chance he doesn't win. I certainly won't bet Dwight Howard, a player the media decided to dislike and a player that left media darling LA over Lebron or the field. MVP award is a writer's award. Writers don't like Dwight. He can change their mind certainly, but it will be hard, particularly when he plays in Houston.
