If your point is that Casspi should be the 4th big man for a 50ish win team, like Bullard, then it's gotten.
Unfortunately, it looks like he will have a much larger role than that, for a team that hopes to be a contender.

:p Of course you are correct!!!!! Especially because Casspi is a Small Forward/Shooting Guard, not a Power Forward. Y:p

Aha! OK, now I get it.
    Thanks, Yetti!

Let me just pass the word around:

    • Sorry, Lebron - you can't guard big guys - You're a SF.
    • Sorry, James (beard) - you can't lead a team or be a top 5 NBA player - You've always been your team's 6th man.
    • Sorry, Kevin - you can't play Dwight & Omer together - They're both Centers.
    • Sorry, Spud - you can't win the slam-dunk contest - You're only 5'7.
    • Sorry, Chuck - you can't be the NBA's leading rebounder - You're only 6'7.
    • Sorry, Magic - you can't lead the team as PG - You're 6'9.
    • Sorry, Rajon - you can't be your team's rebound leader in the playoffs - You're a PG.
    • Sorry, Yao - you can't be an NBA all-star - You're Chinese.

Casspi's strengths are not on the defensive side. He is the same height as Parsons but worse than Parsons at defending. He will get plenty of minutes against backup 4s and spot minutes against starting 3s.

What's good about Casspi, it's his diversity,
He can play, either a Pf or a Sf and make
The too roles very well in an intelligent team,
With an emphasis on the team's part.

Omri Casspi not being able to guard any PFs is just obvious fact, I don't see why this thread even exists. He struggles to even guard SF's.

Nicely put! Couldn't define "myth" any better myself, Bobby... I rest my case.

I'm glad the Rockets managed to win tonight despite playing that complete waste of space Casspi at PF for 20 minutes. I think those minutes would be better spent on literally anyone else on the team.

Omri had bad game on offense. Mostly out of fear... Actually after his 3 first shots didn't sink in, he had became frigthened to shoot.
But in this thread the subject was defence. And on defencive end opponents PF McRoberts and Zeller scored on Casspi whooping 2 pts together.

That was preseason this is the regular season. All of you Casspi supporters need to realize that this is different from the marshmallow games we have seen. Casspi is reverting to his mean, his average, his marginal contribution. You are what you are.

    Too thin.

Come back after he really has to guard a good PF in the regular season.

He did nothing impressive at all, those guys are terrible on offense, he just stayed in the vicinity of them. If we'd have played a real PF like DMo or Jones we'd have had that plus something on offense. Casspi looking competent in pre-season was a fluke.

And how good was Asik and Howard at defending the Josh McRoberts 3-point clinic ? Casspi can defend some smaller, jumpshooter PFs, while providing decent rebounding for a guy his size.

It could be. But as matter of fact when Casspi checked in in 3rd it was 1 point game, and McRoberts was just killing too heavy Howard/Asik defence with 8 pts and assist in 5 minutes. He didn't score point in ~7 minutes while both Casspi and him were playing.
Yes, McRoberts is more or less as stretch-4 as Omri (a little bigger, a little slower), so it was easier for him to defence. So Charlotte figured it out, so somewhere close to end of 3rd they replaced him with Zeller for some 5 min. He's not terrible on offense (he had ~17 pts average in college) but he's rookie... Anyway Casspi hold ground and Zeller also didn't do anything positive.
Lead growing from 1 to 10 while Omri played in 3rd and 4th was not coincedence, it was strongly related to the fact that Casspi replaced Asik.
Now, would DMo or Jones entrance do the same? Maybe, even probably...
But if Casspi is doing his job on defence, and if it's known he's much better strech-4 on offence that DMo or TJones (yes, if he'll continue to be afraid to shoot - it could change...), that playing Omri 20 minutes wasn't "complete waste" but actually most logical thing to do.

So what happened in the first half when Casspi came in and the Bobcat's lead increased by 1?

I have to say Casspi didn't look too good tonight, but he also didn't get that much of a chance to show his stuff.

He couldn't focus on doing his stuff because he had to go up against one of the weaker PF in the game today. Probably has something to do with him not being a PF.

Casspi is a streak shooter and he had no confidence in his shot today. That being said, I was surprised he wasn't totally useless when his shot wasn't falling. He made some good play near the basket. I was totally wrong about the guy before the preseason started. That being said, he isn't Garcia. Garcia found the fountain of youth and is playing like the young guy that earned himself a 6m/yr contract.

Casspi will be fine. 90% of the users on this site act as though every player is suppose to have no flaws or no bad games ever. He's a nice piece to the puzzle. Though, I'd of liked to see DMo or Jones out there since we had our 3rd string PG (Brooks) playing out there lol.
