ok, morey spoke in dan le batard show. it is due to a fit more than anything else. he said it is obvious. it means starting Beverley is not a last sec decision. they planed it and tested the ideal to see if there is a drop. Beverley did enough to keep his job.

talking about asik, i feel McHale should take similar approach. now, your 2nd unit doesn't have a good center to anchor defense. since we have two starting centers, why not move one to 2nd unit to balance both units?

I'm starting to think it was Beverley's starting job to lose in preseason rather than Lin's to keep. Starting to make sense now since McHale was already telling Beverley to prepare for "heavy" minutes, and now with Lin saying he's known for a "while" now. The alternating starters was probably done to appease Lin fans and ease Beverley into his new role.

    Not true....
Manu was definitely 3rd behind Tony Parker and Tim Duncan

James Harden was also a 3rd scoring option behind Durant and Westbrook

Jamal Crawford played behind Griffin and Chris Paul. Also dont forget they had Caron Butler, Billups, and Jordan on that team who can all score. Of course some of them were injured..

Lin can be tied with Chandler as that 3rd option. Let's just see how it plays out

disagree. i believe McHale just wanted to see the difference. he didn't want a significant drop although he had this idea starting with.

Jeremy is not happy with the situation but he's trying to be optimistic.

That last fact I can sort of see.

McHale played with Dennis Johnson and against Isiah Thomas.

Bev is more like DJ and Lin is more like Isiah.

Please don't flame for mentioning Lin/Bev/DJ/Isiah in the same grouping of sentences.

He went to Harvard and can speak for himself in character. J Lin is his own pr guy. I think he is smart enough not to put his foot in his mouth or burn any bridges. Unlike the many pro-athletes out there.

Both the Rockets front office & coaching staff love Bev for what he can do now and his "potential". A few months back, one of either Kevin Pelton or Zach Lowe, mentioned hearing this from a Rockets' source.

He might have a great attitude, but this comment he made is not remotely true:

“Last year, I started and there were games where I didn’t play much. I might play the first six minutes of each half and that was it. "

There was one game he played 18 minutes and in no other game did he play less than 20.

If Jeremy isn't happy, he should force their hand by playing lights out when he's out there in the court. I don't want him to be a prima Donna and have a me first attitude, gripe to the media or anything. But I would like to see him take charge of the situation a little more when possible, just seems like he lets people walk on him at times. Of course there's only so much u can do if your boss gives you an order and I understand that. But how he had reacted to all of this just sorta bothers me, now he's posting passive aggressive statuses on FB. I mean dude if you think you should start, be confident and go out there and ball and show it.

Thats probably why he is the 6th man. Because he always says he is going to play his game and be himself ("home-run hitter") and MCH don't like it. Thats why his azz is on the bench.

It also provided a useful benchmark for how well Beverley was actually doing. If there had been a big difference between the two, that would have meant something.

Makes one really question where one's priorities lie. People usually don't need to 'walk on eggshells' when interacting with sane people.

I think the truth is probably somewhere in between. The "fit" thing could have been thought out way before the preseason. I mean, even Clutchfans posters thought about this long time ago. I doubt that this would be a new idea in McHale's mind.

But it could be that McHale needed to "experiment" the lineup in the preseason to CONFIRM (rather than decide) that this would work. He still needed the preseason to make sure that Beverley playing with the starters wouldn't be a disaster.

I do agree that if it was a true experiment (meaning totally neutral), then Lin should have been given a chance to start AFTER Asik came back from injury. If it was a neutral experiment, shouldn't they take a look if Lin could do a better job with the TT than Beverley did?
