Teach, that means intellectual. Not everyone is so intellectual. It's the reality. Role models don't have to be Asian but not having one is a problem. People ARE influenced by the media, not everyone is totally thinking individuals; it's disappointing but that's the truth. JLin is not a fringe player. He has elite speed and passing abilities, and he has always been a winner. IMHO you are being naive and overly idealistic about it but that's what we are taught, people are colorblind now. Unfortunately actual events and realities say otherwise. It's easy for you to sit here and say that everything is fine, just be yourself and stuff but people have to face the harsh realities every day. Wishing it away won't make it go away. Actually saying that now everyone is the same sound good but it has a certain consequence. It means minority lose their culture. It is just as bad and confusing. Melting pot but the mainstream is still hegemonic. It is in little details that people are influenced nowadays, not big ideology.
You've hit it in the bulls-eye. To add, unless Lin adapt or the Rockets adapt, it will be very hard to retain him. Fact is, there's no easy path to championship. Everybody needs to work hard and that includes Lin, coaching staff and Morey.
Yeah, whats going on roxlove. It was last week you said you had an asian girlfriend and getting the stinkeye from asian guys, now you say you are gay and into asian guys? Im confused. Does the mean you are bi? All of which totally cool by me. No wonder you're confused about jeremy lin. Especially with all the connotations with parsons and landry fields. Are you in fact jealous? Its one of the strongest emotions and could explian your hate for Lin.
Okay i don't mean to beat a dead horse, but seriously what the hell is going on Roxlove? Why would you lie to my face? Through the internet? I honestly can't believe people would go on the internet and spread lies like that.
Probably not, unless he shows he can be a consistent outside shooter, a good finished around the rim and penetrator - all the things Kenny Smith used to be. It is still the time in NY that makes me think he can be that guy, but somehow he just could not maintain that swagger and confidence in himself to play the same way all the time. I think we will chase a star PG at some point during Morey's tenure and I see it happening sooner than later.
A bunch of kids on Youtube who've only surfaced in the last 7 or so years? This is what the Asian American community has to look up to, in your opinion? I'm sure their Q-rating is through the roof. Granted, Youtube has been a great boon for a lot of ignored demographics, but it's still a DIY platform with limited visibility. It also lacks the prestige of other platforms such as cinema, politics, or television. So I'm still waiting. Perhaps you could argue John Cho for his role in the stereotype-subverting "Harold and Kumar" movies, but that'd be ONE example.
Percentage-wise, Rockets are still only the 16th most home attended franchise. I didn't know about the profitability though. Thanks for pointing that out. Still, none of this prove the influx of magical Asian money into the Rockets' franchise. At the height of Yao's popularity, who was not only hugely popular with Asian Americans but also with native Chinese, the direct returns on him were minimal at best. It's extremely unlikely to think that Lin, in only 1 season and as a less influential player on the court, has somehow eclipsed Yao as a cash cow. As I said before, people just assume that Asian players are cash cows without any proof at all. Fans in soccer do it all the time, and fans of the most obscure little clubs think that having an Asian player will mean that everyone in the home country will buy 3 separate kits each or something. A player like Park Ji Sung was able to have a huge impact marketing-wise for Manchester United, but that was because (A) Manchester United is the most prestigious club in the world; (B) Park actually got a lot of playing time, especially in the most important matches; and )C) he was the first Korean player in a long time to succeed in Europe. Anyway, that was just a bit of a digression.
Woah woah woah, you guys never heard of being bisexual??? WTF Perhaps I should REPORT some of you haters, always questioning me and doubting me when I am just baring my soul here.
Wo, wo, wo. It's all good man. So you are Asian bi-sexual; but you had the stinky eyes from Asian guys, supposedly because they think you shouldn't be dating one of their own; that implies you are not Asian. It's very confusing you know what I'm saying? No hate. Just gotta clear things up to know what to think. You said half of your family is Asian or something like that.
It's called being multi-racial I have some Mexican, German, Filipino, Cherokee and Navajo ancestry, and that's what I KNOW of... so yeah I am a bit dark skinned, let's just put it that way.
And mixed with the Mexican, there is African lineage in there somewhere (there usually is, many don't want to admit it, but I Am proud of all my genetics), I meant to put that in just now, thought I did, but forgot.
I see where your coming from but just to throw in some more info about this topic, rockets attendance has been decline over the past 3 years. peaked @ 2009 96.9% attendance 2010 91.6% 2011 89.7% Bottom @ 2012 85.1% Then at 2013 jumps to 92.4% the huge jump in attendance could be harden or lin or both but still proves that lin did have some impact in attendance I'm also excited to this check this out again next year if we sign Dwight...
Hey, hey, it's really complicated stuff! So you are saying Asians give you the stinky eyes because you don't look Asian but you see yourself as an Asian? Well, so I can understand it's not easy but you can't fault us for being confused. Anyways, so I guess you don't see yourself as white, black or Latino. So are you more Asian or Native American or half and half or it doesn't matter? Well, but you're surely a minority, ain't easy, I hear ya.
@roxlove I respect you for coming out on Clutch Fans. If any other Lin haters want to come out, I'm cool with that too. I look forward to reasoned debates about Lin, I don't care if you are gay or bi or whatever. But something I don't understand about Gay Lin haters, isn't being Gay about Love not Hate?
Not to toot my own horn too much but I am glad Mchale saw things my way. Its nice to be able to look back and see opinions and find out who got it right and who got it wrong. I will say this Jeremy has really improved and if Mchale had started him I wouldn't be as worried as I was at the end of last season, however even in preseason he showed signs of inconsistency but he had much more confidence and that I like. He should be the perfect sixth man and provide much needed leadership off the bench? Anybody else have a change of heart?
I am just happy Fair Dinkum finally got the ban hammer. That guy was soooo annoying. AND I am very happy BeverlEy is starting.
Jeremy Lin is no way gonna resign with the Rockets , so drop the future pg stuff. Beverley is your future pg. live with it.
