Why do you need someone else's opinion? Can you not form your own?

HEre are the facts: Obama promised everyone they would get to keep their health insurance plan if they wished. NBCNews is reporting the administration has known this to be untrue since 2010. NBCNews also gives some projections that roughly 50-80% of privately insured people will lose their current plans.

Whats your own opinion on the subject robbie?

I like to listen to other people's intelligent minimally biased opinions. It helps me figure things out when I don't have a great base in a subject like healthcare/insurance related stuff.

My initial opinion is that the administration was misleading people about keeping their plans.

I was curious if someone had a different interpretation of this report that maybe showed why the administration felt comfortable repeatedly making the claim that people could keep their plans. That claim clearly seems to be impossible due to the new regulations associated with the ACA.

My general opinion of the ACA is that there are some good parts, but the bulk of it seems to be untenable. It doesn't make too much intuitive sense to me either. To me the problem with healthcare isn't insuring everyone it is making it affordable to everyone. This plan primarily seeks to insure as many as possible. To me it seems as if the insurance companies are a big part of the problem with the rates they bill. Creating a system that only increases their grip doesn't make sense to me based on my understanding of things.

Misleading is certainly a very nice way to put it, though I agree with you on the bonded.

That's a good amount of people who were misled.

wait, this is a thing now that you actually believe?

I honestly have to say I didn't know who that woman was when you posted the photo on the top of page 10.

I had never seen her face, even during all this healthcare.gov rollout fiasco.

let's just assume that we all have different media sources feeding us our information.

this is only a piece of the puzzle.

so, media outlets are obsessed with outing this woman now, and are going as far as accusing the administration of creating her in photoshop?

never has a stock photo dominated so many thoughts and emotions until now.

Poor Repubs. Demographics are against them and now tens of millions of folks are going to get healthcare and the bigger the fuss, the more those millions will remember who fought so desperately to prevent it.

Despite voter suppression tactics, it doesn't look good for the Grand Old Tea Party.

What a terribly ironic article. Obama's statements about keeping your health insurance were normal political tricks (which were neither 'narrowly untrue' nor 'clearly dishonest;' they were narrowly true but misleading overall), just like the ones that got us into the Iraq War, or passage of the Patriot Act, or... well millions of other things at all levels of government. That's how we do things, for better or worse. And the ironic part of it is that this very same article is a manifestation of the same ploy being run right now by Republicans in their new attack on Obamacare. However true even the accusation may be, the reason it's before our eyes right now is because someone else wants to manipulate us into another policy decision that they prefer. Like Obama's original arguments, this accusation is narrowly true but misleading overall.

And they -- the politicians -- do it because it works. And you can't afford not to do it so long as the opposition is doing it. Which is part of the reason why politicians suck. And, it's a shame that people are so easily led about in this way, and doubly a shame that they need to be.

I'm not surprised by this at all. Putting ideology aside, the Act isn't very practical. I pretty much take this for what it's worth, just another tax. Ironically, as much as the supporters of the Act tried early on to deny it was a tax, that is essentially what saved it from being struck down by the Supreme Court. There are very little redeeming qualities other than perhaps covering those with pre-existing conditions. Even then, it's not quite as grand a concept as the costs will eventually get passed on to the "consumers" in the form of much higher premiums. But I guess we all like to pretend we can save the world so hooray for democracy.

The drug war is the biggest boondoggle in American history and it isn't even close. Obamacare wouldn't even come in second or probably even third, assuming it becomes a complete and utter clusterf***, which I don't believe it will.
