This would never happen to Let see: Wall, Rubio( who can't shoot), Chalmers, Felton, ..... The list goes on and on. I guess 13 ppg (15 ppg in April) is not good enough in Mchale's mind. They had to find one weakness of Lin (defending) to send him to the bench. Anyways I hope he plays aggressive and proves to everyone on the coaching staff that he's a legitimate starting point guard. By the way can anyone else name one point guard in the league who was removed to the bench for the backup after having the stats that Lin had this past year? I bet not.

Only one I can think of is maybe Ramon Sessions? Can someone confirm, or maybe I'm fuzzy.

I think your prediction is legit and can very likely happen. We don't know how well Beverley can match up against starters in this league, and we don't know how others will guard him. As of now there still lack scouting report on Beverley.

We need a sixth man. Lin is the perfect option. More depth. Its a no-brainer and with PB running the offense.. its perfect. Lin can now be the main ball handler off the bench and have no pressure of being the starter.

Sessions was never replaced by a backup. He started for the Bucks, then was traded to the Wolves (still starting), then traded to the Cavs (playing behind Irving of course), then traded to the Lakers (playing behind Nash).

lol. PB can't run an offense to save his life. Besides, Harden will be to one with the ball.

What an idiotic thing to say, Wall Rubio Chalmers or Felton do not have a backup pg who are on par with them.

Plus no matter what Lin's fanboys think, this move has more to do what fits Harden and Howard than the actual raw skill of a point guard.

I find it really funny that this is even a big deal when what we are really doing is rotating two mediocre point guards around and quite frankly I don't even think it makes that much of a difference who is starting. This is probably equivalent to the Raptors rotating starters between Calderon and Jarrett Jack.

Aaron brooks was named MIP the year before he got injured. Lowry took his starting spot and never gave it back. Lowry got injured the next year playing phenomenal bbl and in came Dragic, who also never gave it back.

Aaronbrooks pre injury- 19.9 ppt, 5.3 asst, 2.6 rbs
    Lowry - 14.3 ppt, 6.4 asst, 4.7 rbs

all the point guards you mentioned does not play with a superstar SG with the exception of Chalmers who is actually playing the "beverley" role in Miami...

Jamal Crawford is a good example of a point guard who became a 6th man because Hawks has a ball dominant SG in Joe Johnson.

Didn't this happen already in Houston with Lowry and Dragic?

The rockets...where backup guards go to prosper. Can't wait until people start arguing Canaan over Beverley.

In any case the writing's mostly on the wall and Lin fans (not LOFs) will simply need to accept that Lin will be a 6th man now. If he does poorly it will justify Bev as the starter. If he does well, then hey the move worked so he should just stay there. Barring injury or Bev majorly sucking (which I don't expect or want to happen), I think this is where we'll be this whole year at least. I don't agree with the move totally (I think given how he did last year as full time starter he should have been given a chance to prove he could mesh with Howard and harden) I understand that the reasons for the move are supportable. Lin accepts it so we might as well. I think he'll do very well in the role.

Why would fans worry about that? He is on the Rockets, as long as the team is doing well, that is all that matters.

Jeremy will be key to this year, so will Beverly, it is a battle that is good for the team overall - nothing to get all upset about.

If Beverly is the starter, then he won the job, if Lin is the starter, he won it, in all honesty they are not that far apart in abilities, just in different ways.

Lin has more offensive skills, Bev more defensive, whichever one McHale thinks is the most useful that night will play the most.

    Win win !

When Lin retains his starting role, this whole thread and the last 3 days of debating will be worthless.

    Brother 99er,

the only fans who worry about that are fake Rockets fans.
you realize a nuke could hit Houston and wipe out the whole town, these guys wouldn't care. but if Lin is not starting, it's like the world is taken over by aliens.

I just got a feeling that Lin will be the starting point guard despite all this noise. Either way I feel Lin will have a strong season.

looks like it has been decided if what lin said in public is true. only thing I don't get is why McHale didn't announce it. instead, lin is one to do it.:confused::confused:

McHale is the head coach. he has every right to make decision. if he thinks this is the best to the team, it is no shame to say it.

Another bone headed decision by McHale. Beverley's so called good defense will not be sustainable as a starter. Also, with Asik and Howard down low alongside Parsons we have enough D. Who is going to create and feed the twin towers down low now? It is going to be Harden ISO ISO ISO wit the rest standing there and watching along with the occasional Dwight post up. You need more than one ball handler in the starting unit.

McHale doesn't have to announce anything to fans, he is the headcoach of the team, he talks to the players.

He doesn't owe you or me anything.

You will see who the starter is, when the opening night starting lineup is announced.
