Tough loss, but all of SHSU's season goals are still in front of them. Winning out still gives them a good chance of getting a least a share of the SLC title and unless they drop another game somewhere, I think they are still in good shape for the playoffs.

From what little I saw, McNeese came to play and Sam didn't. They just kicked our buts in pretty much every facet. McNeese is definitely a good team.

Sam has to win out because McNeese, I believe, is done with the tough parts of their conference schedule.

McNeese got touchdowns where we got field goals. Made me feel like I was watching the Texans.

Also, what's up with the running game? The TV announcers said something about Flanders being less than 100%. But I think we're losing the battle at the line of scrimmage. There just aren't any holes to run through, and on pass plays Bell doesn't have much of a pocket.

Also seems like on defense our blitzes get picked up 90% of the time. They don't even cause the opposing QB to have to hurry.

On offense, not having Flanders at 100% is a huge deal, but maybe we are also seeing the end result of this being the third and fourth time around the league with more or less this same cast of characters.

I'm certainly not suggesting that's a bad thing. On the contrary, that type of continuity is what has built the SHSU program into what it is today, but if the offense doesn't continue to evolve and develop new wrinkles, it can get easier for opposing defenses to work against.

I'm just throwing things out there, but it's just something I've thought about.

Well, they still have to play SELa and at sfa. SELa is a pretty good team and you never know which sfa team is going to show up.

This season is starting to look a lot like last season with McNeese replacing UCA. I was hoping to get all home playoff games until Frisco, but that probably isn't happening now. And the worst thing is....we will probably have to win in Fargo before making it back to Frisco.

We really have to hope someone else can beat McNeese before the playoffs start.

    Row 5, section E, seats 1 & 2. Right on the 50 yard line.

Free to anyone who wants them. Can't make it this week.

Good win on Saturday, but McNeese and SELA both won so we didn't make any headway in the conference. But those 2 teams play this week, so we should definitely pull for SELA to pull off the upset. That way, we could run the table and still win a share of the SLC like last year.

Now the question is.....who else is going to the BOTPW? I look forward to this game all year. And Saturday is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL for tailgating. Can't WAIT.

I'll be there. Don't know if I'll be there long for tailgating stuff, but I'll try to at least stop by the College of Business tailgate and Alumni Association tailgate (really the only benefit of joining the Lifetime Alumni Association is the free jumbo pretzels and other crap foods you get at these tailgates... what a waste of money that was).

My understanding is that the game on Saturday is close to selling out. Less than 100 tickets left on the Sam side. sfa, on the other hand, is having trouble selling their side and lots of Bearkats who can't get seats on the Sam side are going to start buying up on the sfa side.

    EAT EM UP.

If you had 104 as the o/u and took the over, congrats.

    Squeaked one out there.

What did the crowd end up looking like? Last year, the SFA crowd seemed a little light and I would imagine it was more of the same this time around.

The Sam side was totally full from what I could see. Hard to tell when you're in the middle of it. The sfa side had a lot of empty seats.

They did announce that this was the biggest crowd in the history of the series though. I think it was something like 26,200. It's gone up every year since being in Reliant. Hope it stays for the foreseeable future.

Had a blast as usual. Got too see lots of old friends and the weather was literally PERFECT. Didn't even break a sweat before or during the game and the roof was open. Reliant is just STUNNING on a nice day with the roof open.

BTW, McNeese lost so now if we beat SELa, there will be a 3 way tie for 1st place. I hope that doesn't happen. I can't see all 3 teams making the playoffs... Hopefully one of those team loses another.

Going to be in Hunstville this weekend (soccer alumni game). Might try to make it to the game since it's at 2. There must be quite a few that come in to town for games because hotels were kind of hard to find. The Holiday Inn Express is booked solid.

Huge game this Saturday. SHSU @ SEL for first place in the SLC. Game will be televised on your local Southland TV Network affiliate.

I think it's a must win for Sam. If we drop to 2 losses in the conference, playoffs might be in jeopardy. McNeese is likely to win out (home for NWSt & @ Lamar).

Actually, Sam must win out, IMO. Going to also have to win @ Central Ark on 11/23.

Seniors have made history at SHSU

Not sure what SHSU football is going to be in 2014, but the last few years sure have been fun. At the soccer alumni game this past weekend, many of us were talking about the old days and how the only reason some would go to games was because the cafeterias were closed on campus. The only game I went to in my time there was only because my brother played for SWT. I sat in the visitors section.

    Good read.

That 2011 season was special. It's a shame that these guys didn't win a title. This year the odds are stacked against us, but I hope for their sake that we can pull something out.

Since I had season tickets I'll be able to get priority playoff tickets to any games in Huntsville. I really hope they play at least one up there. I'd love to see these guys play in person (in a real game) one last time.

This game is going to be tough. I don't feel good about it. We beat them 70-0 last year. Don't you think they'll be looking for revenge? Especially at home...

The good news is that people at Katfans are saying that even if we lose, we should still make the playoffs because of the win against Eastern Washington. Assuming we beat UCA next week.

I hope I'm wrong, but I just have a baaaaad feeling about this game. Our defense isn't what it was during our 2 national runner-up years.

Looking bad for SHSU. SLU went the length of the field with a minute or so on the clock in the first half to come within 4 points at the half and has looked great since then.

SLU now leads 24-21 and looks like they're about to score again.

    Bell with an injury.

And a costly INT in the RZ.
