If you watch whenever Bev and Lin are playing together, Bev always runs the point while Jeremy plays off guard

In interview Bev said they could switch back and forth.

Almost every coach in every sport does this. Even if the decision has already been made, they will withhold it from their opponents until the last possible moment.

I think lin would excel in a role similar to nash or parker and he'd be a all star.

That's the thing, Dwight didn't come to Houston just to become Tyson Chandler. Hakeem wasn't signed to watch Dwight run mostly pnr. Whether we like it or not, he's going to have to prove that he's capable of being an effective scorer in the post.

Seems kind of silly against the Bobcats...

I'll regret saying that if they do well, but what are the odds?

It's likely the players already know the starting lineup, but McHale simply chose not to reveal any information to the media that would help the opponent, even if it's the Bobcats.

    yup. well said.

while with lin as the starting pg, you have the potential for a very explosive back court (we saw many game where lin/harden combined for 50+ and 20+ assists. you won't see that with bev), mchale knows this is his only shot, and will play it very, very safe. in football terms, his punting for field position rather than going for it on 4th and 2.

it's in lin's nature to be home run hitter, but that's against mchale's instincts so he's out. mchale prefers someone more established, proven veteran to run the show (harden), and for everyone else to just play defense and get out his way, and don't make mistakes. that's just not lin.

I don't necessarily disagree with your post except the part about Lin learning a new role. I don't think there is much adjustment. He should get to run the offense like he wants for 12-15 minutes a night and then for another 15 minutes a night be next to Harden like usual.

It's unfortunate for Lin that he got stuck with McHale.

    2013/2014 awards, too early? ;):

Harden = Scoring Champion of the Year & Most Valuable Player

Bev/Howard = Defensive Players of the Year

    Lin/Casspi = 6th Men of the Year

Asik/D-Mo = Most Improved Players of the Year

This will be a special season. Very very special. We will witness history.

Another important point. Dwight most definitely needs a pg who can facilitate his offense for him, posting him up quick and often, using him on the screens, and finding him on the fast break. I honestly feel Lin can be that guy and that we will suffer for it IF Lin's minutes gets reduced to the mid 20s primarily without Howard. I don't get why (perhaps it's me) McHale and seemingly most people cant see that Lin facilitates a fast attack that is perfect for the Rockets IF his shooting can be somewhere near 37% from 3. My quibbles over Lin this preseason and ultimately why I'm arguing vehemently in favor of Lin starting was that Bev separated himself from Lin in pnr defense, not saying exactly that Lin was poor at it, but that Bev was great in that aspect. And the other quibble was that he passed on open 3s and opted to drive which is a no no for my basketball sensibilities. Either way, if Lin was made to be something special which I think he was personally he'll rise out of whatever situation he's in. Simple as that. Meanwhile, it's all about the Rockets! And all you Bev haters cut it out. Two wrongs don't make a right. Stop hating. Dudes got game~

    1) I hated those Harden-isos at the end of games, but they were not necessarily all his fault. I don't think he felt that he could TRUST anyone on the team to legitimately take those last shots. This year he has Dwight so the coaches should hold him more accountable if the ball gets sticky and he goes into unnecessary hero-mode. In other words, I believe the isos will go down. But he is our best player so you ultimately go with his decision making.

    2) I've yet to see evidence that Lin is the BETTER pick and roll/passer for Howard, but yes, he'll be a perfectly good handler option in the PnR.

    3. Who else do you trust to handle the ball? We really just have Harden, Lin, Beverley, and Parsons/Casspis (on a good day), and that is my exact rank of preference for ball handling duties. I think Harden will still be primary ball handler but less so than last year.

    4. Yes, the ball does get sticky but I see that as a team problem. There was a lot of ball watching last year, particularly when Harden had the ball. His teammates need to do a better job of moving around, cutting, and giving him an outlet option so it doesn't turn into an iso-only option.

Bev will never have a bad game since his main focus is D.
