Yea, I guess I'm semi-wrong about it only being about him being asian, but that does play a part. I probably was being slightly dismissive about the whole "being doubted story" because it is a nice story.

Sure I know. I certainly know about Westbrook and Durant. I see that bearded guy every once in a while but didn't care much cause it grossed me out.

JR smith have half a lobe in his head. He deserves to be coming off the bench. Crawford is a good scorer, not much else. Snooze.

I root for Lin because he's Asian American and because of his story. It's inspiring. I just like the Rockets more.

I don't mind Lin being benched in principle. We haven't seen how that affects him or his play, so who the hell knows.

I do know that b****ing about it would be toxic. Harden played and flourished as 6th man, so anyone who knocks that role would be a knock to Harden and his idea of commitment to the team.

Anger at not being a permanent starter is a simple attitude. The league is all about matchups. Lin will still get starts.

For a championship run, everyone has to sacrifice, but here I see only one person.

In the end it won't matter.

This year's Rox will beat crap out of the weak and mediocre teams. But they are still one or two year's from contending. They are no better than Spurs, OKC with Westbrook, Clippers, etc. Their coach is un-proven as well.

I am interested to see what kind of play they run in close game this year. There is a fat chance we still see Harden's hero ball because Howard is not a serious threat in the post, and Lin will be sitting on the bench.

This season is going to be a great opportunity for you to enjoy the aroma of beverley's jock. Perhaps apply for a job as the rockets towelboy: perhaps you can acquire a collection. :)

People are dead inside if they didn't find Lins run in NY inspiring. His story is something to behold, but we're focused on winning a championship now. In the 6th man role, he can play the way he loves to play, and still be a very important piece of the team. We need his play-making, ability to penetrate and finish, and I'm sure we'll rely heavily on him this season, as we did last season when Harden had his struggles.

Actually I say Rockets have a very good chance of being number 1 in the West.

Spurs- I say this will be the starting year of decline for them. Ginobili showed his age last year and I think after the lost in game 6, this will be Duncan and Pop's last season in the NBA.

Clippers- I 'm not sold on the Clippers. They got real lucky last year with that win streak. Their front court is still terrible defensively and this is Doc's first year with them. I don't believe they will be a top 1-3 seed.

OKC- 6 weeks without Westbrook. That's 20-24 games not including the time it will take for Westbrook to be truly 100%. They also lost Kevin Martin who was a 45% three point shooter for them for a average of 17 a night. They got alot of unproven talent and I think it will blow up in their faces especially since Scott Brooks is a terrible coach in my opinion. Their chances of making a top seed will fall solely on Durant's hands.

The whole talk about how Bev is more suited for the starting lineup is not serious. What PB is really suited for, is James Harden only. I can live with that, simply because Harden is our best player, and he needs the ball.

I am not too sure that Lin could be Manu. Heck, if he could play at Manu's level (in his prime), we won't be having this discussion. He will either start or be traded.

We have all perceived PB as a great defensive player who's going to stop all the top point guards, while sharing some of Harden's defensive duty. Meanwhile, he will grab those long rebounds and knock down 3 pointers at very high percentage. Our data point was from his backup minutes. I am afraid whether PB can live up to that kind of star level expectation.

If Harden has to dominate the ball all the time, to keep his flow, understandably, I don't see how Lin can really "lead" the 2nd unit with disruptive style of playing, depending on Harden's presence. After all, their minutes will be overlapped, one way or another.

My read of the situation is, PB is starting because McHale wants consistency. Lin will contribute off the bench, and once he's traded, there will be minimum impact to the team (starting lineup).

    It is just business.

LOL at people thinking Jeremy will have the same role Harden did as a backup in OKC. Harden was leading the league in free throws made in the 4th quarter while sharing the court with Westbrook and Durant in his last season with OKC. Jeremy will probably not even finish games this season.

I would bet Jeremy either gets traded during the season or in the offseason as a highly valuable expiring. Houston def gave him the short end of the stick, but hey, the NBA is not fair for everyone.

The question becomes, will we now have two offensive holes on offense. Or can Beverly give us 12-15 ppg. If we just added another liability, then everyone suffers from Harden, to Dwight, to Parsons. If he can be productive, then it works.

He has to prove he can handle big minutes and not have his game suffer in the 4th. I don't think this will be a problem. Think he is high energy all the time and won't wear down.

But what of leadership. Lin strikes me as one of the stronger leaders on the team. A true communicator. Keeping the team loose. Keeping the team on track. Beverly leads by energy. But don't see him as a glue.

I am a strong believer that the best player should get the majority of the minutes. Normally that means starting. You want your best 5 on the court. In the long run there will be times when you need that player to step up in big minutes. Lin has proven he can do that. He carried a whole team on his shoulders before. Beverly not so much. As 6 man Lin will need to be the guy he was in New York to be effective, and that's a nice role, but the truth be told, that role only means something if he gets the minutes.

All that matters is that it works. We had a solid pre-season. Let's see if that carries into the regular season. About 3/4 of the year an experiment in how to be on the same page. And the post-season will be a second experiment on chemistry in that format. So a long way to go. Key is to experiment a little as we have a bag of ingredients, but no concept of how those ingredients will come together best.

The one thing we really need is an upgrade at PF. I don't see how trading Lin will get us back an upgrade there, and it would add a new hole in the guard rotation.

That said, Lin is clearly more likely to be traded than Beverley given the cost to production ratio, so minimum impact to starting lineup may well be one of the factors that would move him out of the starting group.
