It doesn`t really matter if he would prefer to start. I am sure Garcia would prefer to start. All that matters is, that Lin is not frustrated and thus plays worse than he could because of this move. Coming of the bench is ok for him - and he probably knows what a 6th man can do.

Like you said, it is all up to him. I agree that he didn`t lose his job. Just like Asik didn`t lose his starting center job. Dwight came and the whole make up of the team changed. Now we need a Chalmers like guy to start and a spark off the bench. Lin can and will play more than 30 minutes, if he plays great ball. No one is stopping him. McHale would be thrilled if Lin plays great - because that would mean his team is playing great.

Lin is not a 6th man. A 6th man finishes games, and mchale has made it clear that beverley will close out games.

Since lin won't play in the 4th quarter, he certainly won't be playing 30+ minutes a game. Probably 20-26 mpg.

It's interesting to see how this effects his brand. My guess is that this is pretty much the beginning of the end. Unless or until he becomes a starter on another team. Even then, the jlin brand is irreparably damaged.

    This. One hundred times this.

It is an honor being a 6th man, not everyone is going to be the star franchise player (Harden) and not everyone is going to be the 2nd best player (Howard...at this point)

There are a lot of starters who are really only asked to do one thing, if this role gives him more freedom than it is actually a promotion.

I don't think Manu sacrificed much because he seemingly never complained about the role and seems he's actually grown to enjoy it. Joe Johnson has his max contract and Manu will have his HOF induction...

Also, the 6th man is usually better than the guy starting over him. The whole point of the role is just to give the bench a spark and a leader.

Lin made guys like DMo and Casspi or Garcia like stars when he came off the bench in preseason. Why not? Asik, DMo/Casspi, Lin, Garcia, Parson will dominate most teams' 2nd unit. If Harden is tired/hurt, Lin should be the main ball handler and not Bev. If Lin plays well, leave him in to close the last quarter. That way, he gets to maximize his talents and the team win more games because there is no let down in offense between Harden & Lin handling the ball. I rather see Lin in his strength as a main ball hander or playmaker than a spot up shooter.

Not sure why you guys are complaining. What this means is that 9 nights out of 10 our bench will outscore theirs. Thats a huge advantage to have.

It also means that the starting line up of howard, asik n bev can disrupt the other teams starters from ever getting into a rhythm. I am super excited for season to start!

Mchale pushes the Howard+Asik, but he don't want to play Lin+Harden.

Remember, he is the same coach who waived Jeremy Lin

It's the argument that grown men millionaire professional basketball players start to pout and suck at basketball when they don't get what they want.

    Let's look at the evidence.

    1. mchale and staff have been playing beverley consistently in the 4th quarter late last season.

    2. mchale and staff were clearly impressed by beverley in the playoffs, disregarding lin's injury and how that might have effected his play.

    3. mchale stated that he had 2 starting pg's and stated he would alternate beverley and lin as starters, yet that has not happened; instead, beverley was assigned consecutive starts and has now been named the full time starter.

    4. neither morey nor mchale have stated that lin is a "6th man." A 6th man closes out games, which lin will not, since mchale does not want him too.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's going on here.

I remember in one of the last games how Bill and Matt were talking about how the Rockets training staff said Beverley is the most conditioned athlete the Rockets have had in a long time. So if what they say is true maybe that's why the coaching staff is not hesitant in giving Beverley the starters minutes.

Don't get me wrong, Lin will get a good amount of PT and will probably be in he game alongside Bev at the end of games... but when we need a stop or a big game changing play on D I'm betting Beverley will make the play.

    Go Rockets!!!

Morey waived Lin, not McHale. Been discussed a million times. His non guaranteed contract and being behind Lowry and Dragic screwed him. Not McHale

That depends on if he is given the true 6th man role, playing time, and when he is on court. I hope coach will give him the opportunity.

I like how you make up information and call it evidence.
