Well if Mchale does that then he's a fool. Most of the fans here are just focusing on one side of the ball, that of the smaller and quicker guys getting their shot off against Asik or DH. Well what happens on the other side? You think DH or Asik won't have an easy time dunking on these guys' heads? Sure Asik has stone hands and he might miss....but so what he can grab the reb and try again, these munchkins won't even sniff the ball! OTH, the other guys better hope they don't miss their shot, 'cause they'll just have one opportunity to score per possession. And that's assuming DH can't keep up with their stretch 4. The truth is DH is one of the most athletic and quick big men in the league, if he can keep up with Dirk then he can guard any big man out there.
One guy can't carry a team on his back offensively, esp. if it's a stretch 4 PF shooting mid range shots LOL. In fact, historically speaking stretch 4s like Charlie Villanueva, Rashard Lewis, Chris Bosh don't have success in the playoffs because opponents sag in the paint and let them chuck their team into oblivion. I mean, Dirk is already the epitome of a stretch 4, you won't anyone who's better. And we manhandled his team.
Why say that? We won't got TT if Melo or Lebron play PF. That doesn't mean we should scrap the whole idea of using TT.
Morey don't lie. 48 min w/ an elite rim protector is more valuable than an elite PF. Our defense is here to stay.
Let's discuss this "going to be trouble" statement in a relative sense. We just saw the Rockets destroy SA and MEM. So, maybe we can say we just have a super powerful defense where it crushes some teams, but only hampers others. Saying our devastating defense against SA or MEM might not be so bad for GSW, is similar to explaining why Jesse chose Hank over Mr. White. Both are bad. One outcome is just simply worse than the other. btw...we embarrassed GSW last year.
I must say its pure gold, man. Teams will have a problem with our unpredictabikity. We can pound them on the inside, attack them with drives, kills them with thress. We have twin towers, a defensive rotation, a small ball rotaion, a three point rotation, a pick and roll eotation.... everything is covered. Now lets earn some minutes together and make them mesh. This team is special.
This. While twin towers might not work against some opponents, it is not the only option the Rockets have.
Yup, we destroyed GSW at their own game. We can still play the run and gun game, with Casspi replacing Delfino and everybody else returning... oh and we added that Dwight guy. Why do people worry about GSW?
I felt Dallas more control of the game until Dirk was ejected. The Twin Towers in this game was like Blaster without Master (Bev). Bev + TT = Master Blasters The Spurs hadn't won a pre-season game. Timmy & Parker had their minutes limited and Manu didn't even play. Grizzlies just had a bad night. Even with all the starters out & the 3rd stringers going at it the Grizzlies continued to be poor. The Towers lineup hasn't had a real test yet but it's hard not to be excited.
The only reasons Dallas made it close had nothing to do with Dirk. Asik was on his 1st game back, Jose Calderon went off with JLin guarding him.
The real test will come when we play the following teams in the regular season: Heat - Back to back champ. Thunder w/ healthy RW - The most potent offense last year. Spurs w/ Ginobili and Leonard - In the 3 losses, we lost by 36 pts combined. Bulls - Rejuvenated offense w/ a healthy Rose. The road to championship has to go through those teams. Without proven in the regular season that we are a worthy adversary, everything is just fool's gold.
But the problem is what's your alternative though? You think a stretch 4 can guard LBJ or Melo better than Asik? At least Asik will prevent them from going into the paint and force them into taking (bad) mid-range shots, whoever that stretch 4 your proposing will just get dunked on by LBJ. PS: Purely as a stretch 4 Melo or LBJ aren't better than Dirk, simply because Dirk's a better shooter than both of them.
Never ever mistake preseason games for regular season games. The former shows teams working on what they believe they need to. The latter displays teams trying to win.
Not sure what you were watching. There were at least 2 moving screen by Dirk in the fist quarter that the ref didn't call. (They did start calling them after the 1st qtr) There were also a switch assignment with Harden on Jose who just blew by him for a easy layup.
