We are indeed on the right path. Morey made this team up without us tanking for a high pick. That's genius, right there. That being said we have two dominant centers, arguably top 5 in rebounds, defense. Who else has that? Memphis? Spurs? And why do some people just want to copy the recipe of the other team? Many of you guys want to take the road the miami way, 3 super friends and all. But please please and please take a good look on our team right now. we have something special. Let's give it a chance to blossom first.
The question was score on the Twin Towers, not beat the Rockets. You do that with 3's and midrange. The Mavs have the best shooting PG in Jose Calderon, and the best shooting PF in Dirk. And Calderon was on fire in Q1 lighting up Lin on the PnR, then doing the same to Bev before getting called back to rest because its preseason. Again, the question was how do you score on the Twin Towers, not how do you beat the Rockets. And again, its preseason. The key guys on the Spurs/Mavs are 31-37, preseason is a warm-up for them. And the Pacers/Grizzlies are exactly the opposite of what you need to score on us (and exactly what you want to stop us from scoring). IMO the Nets are the only team that maaaaaybe is built to match up well against us on both ends assuming health, the KG effect (turned Perkins into an actual NBA player), and any of them being able to stay in front of Harden.
Will be interesting to see how they hold up against a team like Minnesota that is going to try and push the tempo as much as possible, and will utilize screens to get the rotations and mismatches they want.
if the rockets bigs are down low on offense, so are the other teams bigs, so its our 3 perimeter players vs their 3 perimeter players how does that give them an advantage? also since most teams dont have two legit big men wont the other teams sf would also have to go down to help out on the boards decreasing the likely hood of fastbreaking ever more
If I were the opposing coach trying to score against Dwight and Asik I would get my best shooting big man and surround him with 4 perimeter players. I'd park my big man at the 3-point line in the corner or at the arc and I'd run switches with my 4 perimeter guys until I got the right iso match up at the top of the key on Dwight or Asik. Then I'd simply let my perimeter guy take Dwight/Asik one on one. (Oh the nighmare of Josh Howard vs. Yao Ming.)
You pull Howard out of the paint with a stretch 4. This alone isn't the biggest problem. It is when you do this in addition to involving Asik in a high pick and roll. Now you have essentially taken both big guys away from the basket, neutralizing our defensive advantage and completely opening up the lanes to the basket. Hopefully they can devise a counter for that.

Go back andwatch the old sonics with perkins and that other jump shooting big. Guys like howard and asik have trouble in transition caused by 2n fast break. Natural instincts say go to the paint and protect the rim,but guys like love, dirk, lma, bosh, will stop either at 3pt line or in between and shoot uncontested jumpers. Pick and pop if the small guy doesn't doesn't defend it well will cost the bigs points also. I mentioned the 90s sonics giving dream problems cause he really didn't want to come out the paint, but the 80s sonics gave the rockets the blues too cause tom chambers was a stretch 4 who could also beat people off the dribble. That twin tower was 4x better than this version and they had problems.
Most teams will immediately go small and run Howard all over the court until he becomes ragged. This works because Asik is not much of a threat offensively. He can be effectively guarded by a 6'8" small forward. Going small defensively is an advantage for the opponent because the defensive rotation to double Howard will arrive quicker. And the recovery will be faster if Howard passes out of the double team. It will not be long at all before the NBA figures this out. We just have not seen it yet because the opponents are not playing to win, they are playing to look at their standard offense and defense.

@brittrobson I'd be a little anxious surrounding D12 w/ minus defenders (mostly) unless I'm 100% sure he's back to full health. Absolutely correct, except that Dream/Sampson was only 2x better than Howard/Asik. Howard can be mentioned in the same sentence as the Dream or Sampson. This is not true for Asik.
Why would Morey ever trade Asik for a stretch four who is a net negative in every other part of his game other than scoring? And heck he is not even a great scorer.
Because he's not? He's actually a good rebounder. I don't think we make any kind of deal until at least the deadline though.
I wouldn't say good I think that's a STRECH. I would say however he is an underrated rebounder just because he shoots threes and he is not physically imposing player
There is way more positive having Twin Towers than not having them. You absolutely owned the rebound and that's VERY IMPORTANT to winning games. You don't want to give the opponents any 2nd chance shots. You absolutely owned interior and any penetration or layups and this forces team to take jump shots all game long and if they have an off night game, guess what? It's an easy win for Rox. And because James Harden looking to attack and penetrate, our offense continue to thrive even w/ 2 big men inside. So i don't think a stretch 4 is as dominant as having the TWIN TOWERS.
6.4 rebounds in 31 minutes for a power forward? I would use a lot of words to describe his rebounding, but good would not be one of them.
Why are people acting like we can't make a change if a team is having success with a stretch 4. We can easily make adjustments if necessary. Parsons/casspi can play the 4 if necessary.
As long as all you want from a PF is shooting 3 pointers and don't care that they bring nothing else to the table, sure, Ryan Anderson would be great. Anderson is a player who would be a lot better at Baseketball than Basketball. Anderson is a pretty good basketball player as long as he doesn't have to run or jump or dribble.
