This is true to a point. However, Asik hustles and Howard is fairly quick down the court. The key is getting Howard on board with the need to hustle down the floor.
I don't care if Dirk or Love scores, they are not contenders. If twin towers will slow players like Durant, Wade or Lebron, Rockets should use it.
-Cause turnovers and score in transition -Screen the guards to death (major weakness) and shoot midrange/floaters -Exploit the 4 with shooting or quickness -Pull a "Danny Green" on Harden (drift out of his line of sight on the weak side while he ballwatches, and cut baseline or to the 3pt line) -Get Dwight in foul trouble Basically the Nets, Spurs, and Mavs.
Basically, we turn opponents into jump shooting teams. Some can catch fire and beat us or attack in transition, but the problem with that is that we are primarily a running team on offense and they have to have the stamina to run back on defense against us as well. It gets even worse for teams, because the more you run, the less strength you have in your legs to make jump shots in the 4th quarter. And you'd better make it, because you won't have a second chance with the way we dominate the boards. We're a match up nightmare. Even if someone takes advantage of the big lineup, we can go small or devastate them with possibly one of the best benches in the league with two starters, Asik and Lin with shooters. Our pace and depth over an 82 game season will be very difficult for opponents. Barring health which we must be very concerned about, I'd like to see Harden wear some padding around his legs or knees, it should be a special season.
Considering Memphis scored a total of 5 baskets in the total time Dwight and Asik were on the floor, teams are struggling. Memphis has probably the best interior offensive frontline and they looked clueless.90% of there shots were jumpers.
Playing twin towers will ensure the Rockets win games EVEN when they have a night off. This is the recipe for a Championship. Especially when you start Beverley as well. Nobody in this league can take advantage of any of the Rockets position...that is just a SICK lineups. Teams usually try to attack inside but there is nothing there against Howard and Asik lol. So then they have to rely on their PGs who usually generate plays and run the offense, but w/ Beverley starting, they're going to struggle to try to take advantage of Beverley. And if they can't take advantage of anything...they're going to struggle for sure. Mean while, they have nobody that can guard Harden and Howard. It's an almost guaranteed win every single game if we play well.
I can't remember a time since Yao Ming's playing where the Rockets team are making opponents taking jump shots all the time. This team has the "IT" that can take them all the way w/ the starting lineups of Beverley, Harden, Parsons, Howard and Asik.
The Twin Towers give us the ability to play either power ball or small ball. How many teams can do both equally well?
We basically took a dump on the Spurs and Mavs already, if beating the Twin Towers was so easy how come these two teams couldn't do it? The armchair GMs here in CF were right, having Asik and Howard together did stifle the offense. Before we break the 100 pt mark almost every game, now we're lucky if we hit the 90's. But you know what? Who cares about that, teams are taking contested jumpshot after jumpshot and are scoring 70 a night. We're outrebounding and smothering teams left and right, our team has an off night and we still wallop the opponents for 16 pts. It's not as entertaining as seeing guys run up and down and chuck 3's, but it's pretty effective. Teams shouldn't be worried about scoring against the Twin Towers, they should be asking themselves how to WIN against the twin towers. Considering we've wiped the floor with Pacers, Spurs and Grizz it seems they haven't figured out the answer to that question just yet.
