This why mchale is experimenting on starting bev

Hes not as good a fit with harden compared to bev

Hes can better lead the 2nd unit compared to bev

McHale said he has 2 starting point guards.Maybe you should ask him why he considers Beverley a potential starter at point.

I don't see any sarcasm in my post.

McHale experiments with line-ups because he plans to use them if they are effective. Do you really think McHale is starting Beverley just for fun?

This has nothing to do with the starting job, this is about maximizing the effectiveness of the team. McHale may think Lin's skills are best utilized in the 2nd unit, and Bev's skills are best utilized with the first.

If you are really this worried and insecure about Lin's starting job, just remember it's about the minutes and who finishes the game, not who starts.

Would you say Bev starting over Lin the same thing when Lowry took over the starting spot from Brooks?

Asik looks like he's regressed offensively, or I just forgot how bad he was last year and how every bucket from that guy was a blessing. My heart sank when he couldn't catch that pass inside from Dwight, how much better would they both feel if they got a couple assists for a dunk a game together? Everyone would be singing a different tune, but unfortunately asik has the hands of a 7 year old midget and not the hands of an NBA center.

Smith probably has the best hands/catches out of all the bigs (besides DH). Wish McHale would experiment with a Greg Smith/ Dwight Howard lineup just once.

What did Asik do wrong to lose his starting job?

    Not a damn thing.

If, and I really believe it's a big if, McHale actually does start Bev when the regular season it won't be because Lin did anything wrong just that one player showed the coach more. One doesn't have to be bad to lose their starting role. Asik was a beast last year and lost his starting job.

What? LOL. Asik won two games in R1, Dwight got swept. Injuries will do that to you, so no, you're wrong.

Lin and Asik's situations are not even comparable & if people can't understand why, they might be in for disappointment when their favorite player doesn't start.

Howard is a top player. Beverley is a high energy, defensive minded player. Beverley did not put up the scoring numbers Lin did nor did her bring in celebrities and people from other sports to watch him like Lin did in New York City when he brought in football Giants players to watch him due to how he elevated everyone on his team when given the chance. There is such a devaluation of what Lin is capable of doing in this forum. As for fit, Lin fits a team, not just Harden and we should get to see what Lin can do with Howard if he establishes chemistry which I think he can. I like that Lin and Beverley will share the court at times but geez, he's not some guy who just has to go with the 2nd unit, he needs to be playing against the best, making mistakes, and improving through getting that experience.

Asik got almost all of his points exclusively on "gimmies" like put-backs and dunks from when somebody drives into the lane and hands it off to him when the defense collapses.

When playing with Howard, he's not going to get many of those gimme baskets like he used to.

I took it to mean he'd experiment with lineups in general, not just starters. I guess we'll see.

What he did with the Knicks and who he drew in as fans means jack squat to the Houston Rockets. Bringing in fans doesn't add points to the scoreboard.

I'm not devaluing Lin at all. I still believe he is a better overall player than Beverley, but as has happened and explained thousands of times, the best player at a certain position doesn't always start for a variety of reasons. Starting isn't the be all end all for role players like Lin. And yes Lin is a role player on this team. If Lin comes off the bench AND his minutes get severely cut than he and his legion of fans have a legitimate beef, but nothing we have seen thus far points to that happening. He is going to still get his minutes, starter or not, and I'm sure who closes will be a game by game decision, like it should with role players.

So and so first half, great 3rd quarter and so-and-so 4th quarter. My take:
    - Twin towers looked good, Asik still trying to adjust and so is Dwight but spacing did not seem like an issue. We won the rebounding battle again and Asik really set up some nice fast breaks (he was very quick after made baskets). I thought they looked better together than separate actually.
    - We settled for too many threes, would like to see us attack more
    - At times we were too indecisive and unselfish which resulted in hurried (last second) shots and turnovers. I particularly did not like Parsons' and Lin faking a shot and then making a drive into a crowd.
    - Garcia & Casspi looked good, especially at shooting the ball, they sure were not afraid to put it up!
    - Defensively we did not look that good, only in some stretches and that was mostly 1-on-1 defense.
    - D-Mo should be in the rotation, he looked good. AB & Brewer occassionally should see some court time.
    - Howard did okay in the 1st half on offense but very good in the 2nd half by using his quickness. Entry passes were terrible 90% of the time so that's part of it.
    - Harden was too much 1-on-1 at times (at the end of the shot clock) but shot started to fall in the 3rd so that made up for it
    - Beverley & Lin were solid, nothing stood out to me except for Lin's strong drives and Bev's defense again.
    - Boxing out and defending the paint was particularly bad with the 2nd unit, but we made up by that on offensive rebounding and scoring in the paint
    - Finally, everybody seemed to work hard for each other, we hustled and they again had a lot of fun on the bench. Chemistry, which was mentioned by the commentators, seems to be very good. Can you imagine this team clicking on all cilinders, this game proved we can be very, very scary. Keep in mind though, Manu and Kawhi did not play ;)

I think Lin has a strong impact on a team. He's the motor as George Carl put it, he's the one that the Miami Heat had a defensive scheme to stop. What he did in NY has to mean something because it is why he is in Houston. If he doesn't perform like he did in NY, why would Houston pay what they pay to an undrafted point guard? I don't care for your characterizations of "role players" vs. superstars. There are players that matter beyond the superstars and Lin and Parsons are two of them and both can be star players in their own rite on this team. And there's no doubt, Parsons starts. I don't see why there's any doubt that Lin should start regardless of how his minutes are distributed. He's earned it.

Also I liked the referees a lot in this game, they missed 1-2 things but for the rest they were great.
