Scout to SI: "Rockets are one of the most overrated teams" + "Lin can't be a starter."

Putting my biases aside, I can't say I disagree with most of this scout's assessments. Obviously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and every scout has his own opinion but needless to say, they've been around long enough to understand teams. This is what they do for a living. They analyze players and teams' playing styles day in and day out and get paid for it. Oh and that whole "they missed out on Linsanity so they must be all dumb" is a dumb statement in itself. Nobody bats 100%. There will always be some misses.

This is a good article though to light a fire under our players' asses. Nobody hands out championships at the start of the season.

 

Suns lacked interior defense but it sure didn't matter when they earned their high seeds (#1 and 2x #2 seeds in 3 straight years) in the regular seasons.

I stated similarities:

1. Pace, both were #1, which you agreed with

2. High scoring....checked
Sun led the league in scoring
Rockets were second.

3. Efficient offense....checked
Both teams were highly efficient (Rockets #6, Sun top of league)

If you want to add Suns offense were predicated on Nash's penetrations and playmaking, Rocket's offense is also predicated on penetrations and playmaking by our guards (Lin and Harden) . Good catch on that one!

This is pretty much the same as all other preseason previews with a negative tone attached but the exact same result forecast, other than the bizarre fixation on Lin - whom precisely no non LOFs believe is Steve Nash - I don't really see anything new here.

 

I'll give him a big LOL! My expectations for this Rockets team would be WCF at the very least. Harden and Howard will drive this team over the top. Book it. There, I said it.

 

You need to keep in mind that Morey is loathed by a large portion of the basketball fraternity.

Basically every year more and more "basketball" execs etc are being replaced by "analytics" execs and he's the poster boy.

Scouts hate the Rockets because pretty much every player on it right now is against the mold.

JLin was undrafted
Harden was considered less important then Ibaka
Parsons wasn't supposed to blossom
Asik can't be a starting center
Howard is a "quitter"
Beverley is some random kid playing in russia
Garcia's career was supposed to stay dead in the Kings
Casspi can't do anything
Morey was just a nerd who just stockpiled picks

This same scout probably ranked at least 70+ players better than Jeremy when he came out for the draft... Scouts died when analytics were born.

To be fair, Morey's drafting is as much a crapshoot as everyone else's

Most teams have probably waived most of their second round picks the last few years. We've pulled multiple rotation players out of it since Morey took over. Heck, a lot of mid first round picks go south and we've usually gotten good value out of all of them, the notable exception being mr. anxiety trooper. Rockets are one of the best drafting teams in the league.

 

We have had a lot of misses in the 1st.
