I have friends that go every time and love it. I still haven't made it out to one yet though.

The ones I ran into, not literally although I wish I had, were going down Allen Parkway and MANY of them were taunting the people in cars, slapping their cars, squirting water into cars with their windows down and intentionally weaving in and out trying to irritate the people driving. They looked like a bunch of wanna be gang bangers, hippies, just all around dirty looking.

They claim they're doing it to get people involved in biking instead of using cars, but now some have this gang mentality and they've ruined the event. Now they're hated by pretty much everyone on the road. Bunch of toads.

It's for poor people. Started out as a Freebirds employee retreat activity I'm pretty sure.

70% of them wear Aggies gear. True story.

They wear short blue jean shorts and sleeveless tees and you know it. Either way, Aggie fans suck in general and I don't care or associate with those jarbonës.

Never have been caught in one of these larger group crossings, only smaller ones.

However, I need to ask: how difficult is it to obey a traffic light, much less by a person on a bicycle?

It is simple, whether you're at the back, middle, or anywhere in the mob of cyclists:
The light is GREEN, you can pass through the intersection.
The light is yellow, SLOW YOUR butts down because the red light is coming.
The light is RED, do not cross the intersections anymore.

What's the problem with that? Aren't they watching the signal lights?

If you're going to ride a bicycle in a shared street or major thoroughfare, respect the laws and your fellow traffic peeps with whom you're sharing.

loved it, would not take a kid. to much chaos, and potential for the kid to get run over. These events are fun and are made to raise awareness of bicyclists. Feel free to actually ride in the event before casting judgment on a diverse crowd of 400-500 people. Yes there are douche bags that incite cars, and generally annoying, but hey thats life. And yes I will always ride through a red if there is no cross traffic or danger to myself, It would be stupid not to. Only complaint about the ride is that its kinda of a sausage fest.

If you're in the street on a bicycle you should obey those traffic lights. How is it stupid to follow the law?
So are you going there to raise awareness or to "see/meet women"? Which of the two? Seems contradictory.

To get goozers, obviously. Nobody actually cares about raising awareness for bicyclists, what the ****? That's a joke excuse to meet fellow Freebird's employees and maybe even a Manager from Torchy's.

No, it's not "life". It's stupidity at its finest and it's going to get one of you guys shot, or at least a major ass kicking if they keep doing the things that I witnessed. I ride my bike weekly on the trails at Memorial Park, but in no way would I want to be around 500-1000 sweaty hippies with attitudes or those wanna be gang bangers who most likely stole the bikes they're riding.

Everything that I witnessed was low class, dangerous and definitely does not help your cause whatsoever. I'm a pretty laid back dude, but if those dirty ass hippies touched my car or sprayed water into an open window on one of their "bicycle awareness" groupings they would have had needed some new spandex shorties and they'd walking home, not riding.

I AM informed. I know the Texas DOT laws. I follow them. If I break one knowingly or just being an idiot and get caught, I will pay. If I see a red light, I stop. That doesn't mean I'm superior than anyone. What does it have to do with being on a bicycle? Everyone must follow them.

So... you won't answer my questions about obeying the traffic laws? It only takes a few keystrokes.

i was gonna say they're a minor annoyance at worst (I'm a proponent for more bike riding) but if what LonghornFan says is true then I can see why people would think it's a menace.

These hipsters don't bike outside the loop. That's why I live outside the loop.

Inform yourself by riding a bike! Yes some death-dodgers and dare-devils like myself do occasionally run a red light when its convenient. Sorry to offend your law abiding self. anyrate, Ive never seen people acting as bad longhornfan describes. 99% of the people riding are good law abiding people.

but by all means commit a mass-homicide and ride your car into a crowd of young people to make your point

Also biking is pretty fun. breaking the law, even more fun it turns out ;)
