I think it is possible that EA just trying to get something out might have helped out 2K. Given how good 2K looks, I wonder if 2K doubled-down on getting a solid next-gen version out the door. We see the results now from EA's effort, but they might not have seen this coming before. They saw the monster EA dedicating a team to PS4/XBO only, and no telling how long they have been planning that (they did have a fancy new engine though, and this is from the same company that also leverages Frostbite). Might have gotten 2K to try something more than a simple port of the current-gen version (similar assets, but just 1080p/60FPS and maybe some better textures), or skipping a next-gen version altogether. Of course, you don't always need competition. MLB The Show has generally been pretty damn good without any real competition (MLB 2K has generally been the Live to The Show's NBA2K). I think we could be seeing a PS4 version of The Show in the next month or two (maybe), which excites me. EA has dropped the ball on next-gen sports visuals IMO, while 2K seems to have met the desired "wow" level that is expected. Now I want to see what the team in San Diego is doing to push sports games forward in the next-generation. I only wish 2K puts some effort into improving some of the gameplay design (and random other decisions) along with improving the visuals so much. With all of these games (save The Show), we now have a lot more data to work with, so maybe work with getting us some better commentary. Next-gen visuals with 360 (or Xbox1 ...not Xbox One) commentary/presentation is lame. I don't expect it to all be amazing at launch, but by 2K16 or so, I don't want to be seeing problems that have been there since 2K6.
Agree and disagree. I played Fifa 14 on PS4 yesterday and the visuals were quite good; impressive even. I think that studio (EA tiburon I believe) just really sucks at making basketball games if anything. I do agree it seems like they made 2K really come at them. They even beat them to trailer release (I'm sure that was intentional as well). I'm hoping that in the coming years Live can get their hoops games on par with the other sports, but obviously this isn't the year (probably not the next either).
Admittedly, I've probably seen the least of FIFA (definitely not played it), and it does look the best of the 3 EA sports titles (and the only one not developed by Tiburon...the MMA game also looked good). So we probably agree there. But I think it is still lacking in some ways. I think that in certain areas, the PS3/360 version of PES looks better than PS4/XBO FIFA, which I don't think should really happen. FWIW, I concluded this based on some screens/GIFs from a NeoGAF thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=661193 The animation and lighting in PES is really impressive. I guess maybe this is more of a compliment to the Fox Engine (the the PES team) rather than a complaint about EA's next-gen efforts with FIFA (FIFA 14 might be on par with 2K in a lot of ways I suppose). PES for PS4/XBO next year should be a treat (or whenever they decide to do it).
Looks like the typical EA NBA Live gameplay trailer. When you actually play the game, it's nothing like that. EA has nothing on 2K anymore, that ship sailed 2-3 years ago when they failed big time. Interest might be going up, but that's not exactly saying much when there wasn't much interest to begin with for a long time now.
I was only referring to my personal interest. I can't / don't speak for anyone else. At any rate, yeah I'm likely getting 2K anyway. I haven't ever owned a Live game, there's just still something a little off about 2K to me. I guess it's just that I have to re-learn the damn controls every year. Plus I wasn't nearly as impressed with 2K14 as I was 12 / 13.
Sorry if this has been covered, but were there any notable changes in Association mode from 2k13? even small changes? Thats the mode thats the most important to me by far
