http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/nba/rumors/ The question is who stays & who is gone? Definitely staying: James Harden Dwight Howard Chandler Parsons Jeremy Lin Omer Asik Pat Beverly Donatas Motiejunas Terrence Jones Earned a roster spot: Francisco Garcia Omri Casspi Aaron Brooks Our drafted Rookie: Isaiah Canaan On the Bubble: Reggie Williams Ronnie Brewer My Boy Ju Ju Greg Smith Robert Covington Troy Daniels Jordan Henriquez Marcus Camby BTW: B.J. Young was waived at the start of this month...oh ESPN, SMH. So who is on your Opening Day Roster?
he's gone along with Williams Brewer is good for spot minute don't think Morey is going to waive Brooks, Camby, Canaan, or Smith
Jordan Henriquez was already waived. Troy Daniels will certainly be waived. I seriously doubt they would sign Brooks again just to waive him. That just doesn't make sense. Camby is here to stay as well, we need some veterans in the locker room. That leaves Ronnie Brewer, Reggie Williams and G. Smith. G. Smith is more valuable than either of them. Those 2 get cut imo.
9-10 man rotation: 1. Harden 2. Howard 3. Asik 4. Parsons 5. Lin 6. Beverly 7. Garcia 8. Casspi 9. Jones 10. Montijunas 3rd String Veteran Insurance Policies: 11. Brooks 12. Camby Developmental League: 13. Smith 14. Canaan 15. Covington Cut: 16. Everyone Else
I think Brewer is making the team. He's often inserted alongside D-mo and Brooks for some spot minutes against other teams' benches. Covington might actually be cut and assigned to D-league. That or Smith is traded.
I think he deserves a spot because of his defense alone, IMO. Also goes to show how deep our roster is when player like Ronnie Brewer may not even make a spot...
Brewer can't do anything on the offensive end. Can't shoot, can't drive, can't finish. All he can do is play defense. He doesn't fit in a team where everybody except Dwight/Asik is expected to shoot a 3 at any given time. Odd man out he's gone.
As was Jordan Henriquez. What's the SMH for? ESPN is correct... Young and Henriquez will go to RGV, and Daniels likely will too.
I still think we would be able to make more use out of Brewer than we would Brooks. He has a niche role on the team, plus he could be our designated hard fouler/guy whose fine we would pay to get himself ejected and rile up the other team's superstar. Miami had Dexter Pittman do this for them in their first championship. For the Lakers it's always been Fisher. Spurs when they were winning had Horry volunteer for this role since he was about useless at everything else at his age.
I need someone to sell me on the idea that it's worth keeping Camby for vet presence alone, even if he can never play a single minute. I don't see it, but it appears that's the direction they're heading.
I don't think Camby is a lock, because McHale has said in interviews that players don't respect or follow guys who don't threaten to take minutes away from them. If he wasn't injured and showed he could still school Smith, Jones and DMo then maybe, but I would say there is almost zero chance we keep him as a player. This is going to be the 10th season for Howard and 9th for Garcia. Last year when we lost 8 of 9 we didn't have either of them in the locker room. I don't see how Camby can add anything in the locker room that our core guys don't already do everyday.
Keep brewer, trade brooks if anyone will give anything. He can play but I just don't see a spot for him
I would rather keep Williams. Williams at least can shoot but Brewer simply does not fit well with us. Given that we are a bit shorthanded on the 2-guard position, I think there is a good chance that Williams will stay. And they should cut Camby.
4 of these guys need to go: Reggie Williams Ronnie Brewer My Boy Ju Ju Greg Smith Robert Covington Troy Daniels Jordan Henriquez Marcus Camby Henriquez is actually gone already. Daniels will surely go. Reggie Williams + Ronnie Brewer are the 2 most likely. Covington is not in the conversation to be cut - too much guaranteed salary, Morey doesn't do it that way.
