McHale is really saying, "I have no idea what I'm doing but I have two of the best players in the league so it doesn't really matter who is out there".

Does it matter who starts if McHale decides to give them similar minutes?

Sounds fine to me. Generally speaking, I would prefer Lin starting, but there are definitely match-ups that the Rockets would benefit from with Bev starting. But pretty much any match-up we can have, either of them will be fine as a starter. They've both been playing excellent basketball this preseason. Lin's defense is underrated, as is Bev's offense, our PG rotation has got to be one of the best in the league right now.

Right. I think if you move Asik the package would likely include Beverley instead of Lin. I can see Asik and Bev for a start PF, but not Asik and Lin. Also if you're the Rockets you really don't want Harden to be the only guy on the entire team who can playmake. What if Harden gets injured? Also Harden as lone playmaker will tire considerably as the season progresses, and in which case his playoff performance would probably be like last year's playoff performance, or worse.

Lol @ CF taking the bait; advertisers are not seeing the clicks to justify the pricy spots for advertising on the Houston Chronicle. Any insider know the CPM?

Where and in what context did McHale's quote come from? The article makes no mention when or where the quote was recorded. Unless someone is willing to confirm the veracity of McHale's quote and provide some background when this came out, I'm writing this off as repackaged commentary from older interviews and I'm surprised the OP would perpetuate the HC's article without adding anything more than the link. I'm sorry but it doesn't pass my smell test.

Folks wonder why Lin fans remain quick to scream yet it's the unrelenting media slant placed on this young man where he is simply the pawn in the revenue machine that is his name. ESPN news services just picked up the article so you know they're working the Lin machine as well.

If I'm wrong I'll be the first to eat that humble pie but my money remains on Lin starting the majority of the games as long as he performs.

I think it helps if players know their roles. That's seems to be what I've always heard in interviews, etc. Players like some normalcy, etc. in their pregame routines, etc.

I just don't want this to turn into something where they don't know if their starting minutes before tip-off. I think that and super-short leashes could affect play.

Asik started all 82 games and did even better. Do you feel the same about disrespect to Asik?

To be fair and correct, half the team had problems with McHale in his first year.
Look, couple of those are gone.

This is old news. People just love rehashing this topic because apparently nothing else is equally conversation-worthy.

Thanks. I found the video. FWIW, McHale followed up the "I have two starting pg's" with "anyone of them could start." If I'm McHale, I'm going to assert my position as the head coach and I think he's doing an effective job by controlling the message rather than letting it control him. However, I didn't take away enough from that comment to warrant the piece but again, this is a business and the HC needs viewers.

    LOL

I agree with this. I think people are wrong in thinking that any massive trade will happen.

I will be so frustrated if McHale alternates starts based on match ups. This isn't high school you don't operate like that. You need consistency after every game. McHale is talking nonsense.

I still don't understand the importance of who starts. The only sport that I can think of that who starts actually matters is soccer since you can't come back on once you've been subbed.

As for people complaining about its not fair Parsons Harden and Howard have a locked in place on the Starting unit who would rather start over them? Lin at the 5?

Lin is considered a backup PG around the league. Would Beverley even be considered for a starting role if he were on any other team? Each probably have less trade value than what posters on CFs think or hope.

Baseball has the same rule as soccer... In football you do not switch quarterbacks at any point in the game unless there is an injury or you are being blown out.

Lin is due $15 million next year. Bev is due--what?--3 million? Yeah, other teams would really prefer to trade for JLin's $15 contract when they can get a pg of similar value for $3 million. Bev is much more desirable on the open market and also in regards any combo deal with Asik. C'mon guys, you're smarter than this.
