No Allen Iverson was an overrated chucker, who took advantage of an all-time bad eastern conference one season to falsely lead people to believe he actually had a major impact on winning. His TS% was a pedestrian 52% and his teams were consistently bad offensively. The 76ers and Nuggest both got better when they traded him. During his practice rant he honestly had no clue that practice was for making the team better, not himself, which is all he ever thought about. His brand of unwatchable dribble ball made the NBA unwatchable for a period of time.
As the analytical movement continues, AI will be devalued more and more over time. He's much more impressive when you watch his game, as opposed to analyzing him on paper.
NO. And he was not better than Wade (with or without the enlarged jaw). A relentless and an inefficient selfish chucker who had the green light was what he was.
Well AI is 19th of all time in points, 6th in PPG, PO PPG 2nd, 11 all stars, rookie of the year, MVP (only 28 players were MVP's if I'm not mistaking, Iverson is one of them), 3 times NBA first team. Can make a strong case in top 50 based on that.
He had no business whatsoever winning that MVP. What is your rationale for that reasoning? You think Wes Unseld and Willis Reed are top 50?
I don't think you listen to his so-called rant close enough. He knew he's supposed to be there, he's knew he's supposed to lead by example. He knew that. And he's wasn't shoving it aside like it don't mean anything. He knew its important. He did, he honestly did. But they were talking about practice, man!
Iverson's fringe top 50 to me, but ROFLMAO at comparing Iverson to Wade. I'd take Wade over Drexler, for crying out loud.
I have no problem with that. To each his own. My real target was his notion that one-time MVPs should be automatically be considered top 50. That is crazy.
Anyone hating on Iverson has formed their opinions from other hater opinions. He was hands down the best scorer of his generation. Better than Kobe at scoring. You couldn't stop him. He played injured. He played without practice(pun). In the 2004-2005 season he averaged 30.7 pts 7.9 assists 4.0 rebs 2.4 steals playing POINT GUARD. All you haters need to wake the hell up lol. He was damn near unstoppable at 6'0 165 pounds. That's like Patrick Beverly light. In fact, an inch shorter and 20 pounds lite.
Top 50 for sure... He's #19 in all-time scoring, ahead of guys like Wade (#87 alltime), Charles Barkley, Tim Duncan, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Clyde Drexler, Gary Payton. He's #12 in steals ahead of guys like Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Ron Artest, and Isaiah Thomas. He's #38 in assists ahead of guys like CP3 (for now), Joe Dumars, Tony Parker. 11 time all-star, Rookie of the year, 2x all-star game mvp and 1 time NBA mvp. 7 time all-nba player (3x 1st team, 3x 2nd team, 1x 3rd team). He's a definite future HOF'er as well. So yes, top 50 player for sure.
Wade definitely a better player in their primes but Iverson was easily one of the top three or four most entertaining players for me to watch in person.
