If that's the case, I think this is a pretty cool idea. Like you said, probably not going to work out for the majority of "investors", but if you can ID athletes that are undervalued, there's some potential fun there. It's kind of like sports betting or fantasy sports - a way for fans to get more interested in the performance of teams or players. That said, the athletes who should be signing up for this are the ones that are overvalued...

I'm just curious as well if this really is a good investment for Arian...if he earns 50 million or less going forward, it's a good deal for him . However Arian last year was the third highest paid football player on endorsement income (only Manning and Brady made more), plus he may have a long career couple with more movie star or tv deals...still turning down 10 million guaranteed is tough to justify. Certainly a "trailblazer" if this works and others get involved.
I think this would only work with football players. Baseball and Basketball deals are guaranteed so why would they do it?
He will be lucky to play beyond his current contract, or even finish his current contract. Once he retires, his income will certainly drop off. He could have a long career, but I'm not sure any acting income would generate income. That could be classified as a separate brand. Then you can factor in time-value, and it becomes even more of an expected loss.
Because they aren't guaranteed beyond the length of the contract? Or because some players may be waiting to be paid. Maybe they just want their money up front. Imagine if a deal was struck with Chandler Parsons.
Income goes beyond the current contract. Future contracts, endorsements, etc. Look at how many high potential rookies flameout - trading some of their potential for guaranteed money now could be a very smart move for them.
True, he gets to keep 80% of whatever he makes no matter what happens, which will still most likely be enough to buy and sell any of us just for ****s and giggles... I think he'll be fine.
Feels like Foster is going to be gone after the 2015 season. 2 years left on the contract no? Dude has earned $$$....he's ready for life beyond football, and will get out before his body breaks down.
