Did they actually say that (about 2k)? Haven't read it, but I haven't really paid attention. Though depending on the wording, I might be a little suspicious. It can be semantics with things like that. Skyrim was supposed to be a completely new engine and all that, but it was obviously just an evolution of Gamebryo. I'd expect the 2K team to be reusing much of what they had with their current engine, maybe just with some new/updated systems (renderer, lighting, etc.) and better assets. Doubt they'd scrap everything, unless they've been working on this for years (and actually...they might have been doing that too). Whether that's just a "port" is up for debate I guess. The Sorcerer PS4 tech demo is essentially the Beyond PS3 engine/tools with better assets, so you can get pretty good "next-gen" results without completely redoing everything. On another note, some German site got a debug/test PS4, and they've been doing some tests with it. An unboxing: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/44iaxwO8xIU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> They did some sound test, and here were the results: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=699436 Seems impressive. I think there might be some more here (all in German of course): http://new.livestream.com/accounts/3796398/events/2475845 PS screw is nice.
I watched a trailer breakdown from IGN last night and they mentioned it. Also you're completely right about developers and semantics so take it with a grain. With that said after listening to their break down it does seem like there are a lot of major graphical differences. They should be kicking out more information soon, my understanding is the big reason they've been quiet is to not cannibalize their PS3/360 sales (like how Rockstar hasn't announced a next gen or PC GTA5 when we all know it's coming). On a side note the full Live 14 trailer is supposed to be out today. I can't wait to be disappointed.
So PS4 is no longer available for pre-order.....anywhere regardless if it is console or bundle. Will stores have stock ready to sell to first comers on release day or is everything pre-order now? Off-topic but I saw pre-order for the One on Amazon and it says that release will happen on December 31 but the console is released on November 22. Is that when Amazon will ship? I'd like to order there to save about $50 on taxes.
Amazon used to carry Launch Edition packages that guaranteed launch-day delivery. I assume they're out of those and have pre-orders until the 31st.
Amazon has been sold out of launch Xboxes for awhile. If it says the 31st, it'll probably ship then. I have a Xbox one preorder set for that date that I'm likely to cancel.
Help me out. I have just dance 3 on the wii for the kids. They want the next one but I am holding out for ps4. With all the add on items the ps4 has what do I need in addition to the console and the game so the kids can play their Just Dance game? I ask because I know the ps3 had some kind of wii like handle while the Xbox didn't.
Honestly, I believe the only thing you need for Just Dance 2014 is the PS4 + a PS4 camera. My wife really wants this so I did a bit of research into it. It's hard information to find, so don't shoot me on this one if I'm wrong (but I'm fairly positive 75% we'll say).
Yeah, I think just the camera is needed. Some previews from E3 seemed to indicate that (just double-checked myself). Ubisoft isn't really communicating that very well though. I didn't even realize Just Dance was a launch title.
Just a heads up, I don't know if Sony is just releasing more stock or what but I've seen the consoles come in a lot the past couple days. It's currently in stock at Kmart right now. If you truly want one of these consoles when they launch, make sure to sign up for alerts at nowinstock.net. They sell out within minutes each time. Specifically the way I got mine is I knew this particular site (Sam's) kept getting them, so I signed in to my account (already had a Sam's membership) and made sure all my cc information was there for a quick check out. It showed up in stock, and I bought it with the quickness.
I have Killzone pre-ordered (never played any of the previous ones, aside from a few brief moments with KZ3 at a MLG event), but coming from playing Halo I wasn't expecting much. Not to mention previous views of the game showed it being pretty, but not incredibly impressive and not really bringing much in the way of gameplay innovation. I have to say after watching this video I'm a lot more excited about playing it. The graphics have been polished quite a bit, and I like the gameplay options they're showing. The story also looks interesting. Again, the graphics look outstanding now. (The video is about half an hour with other games interspersed, you can fast forward to the Killzone stuff as you go.) <div style="background-color:#000000;width:520px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><iframe src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/embed/mgid:arc:episode:gametrailers.com:b36dbe4c-fb4e-4bc2-a43b-e86a8b9d9c52" width="512" height="288" frameborder="0"></iframe><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#FFFFFF;padding:4px;margin-top:4px;margin-bottom:0px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><b><a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/">GameTrailers</a></b></p></div></div>
Yeah, I was pretty impressed by that showing too. I've not played a single KZ game, though I somewhat kept up with the story (it is somewhat interesting and kind of unique). The gameplay always seemed a little bland to me though, despite how great the games look (to be fair, I don't like a lot of these games). Shadowfall appeared the same when initially unveiled. But some of the things like destructible walls and that little owl thing seem very interesting to me from a gameplay perspective. I seem to recall talk about very "open" levels with secondary objectives as well. Again, another plus. I preordered the game a couple of weeks ago (dropped WD and Madden, and felt like I should get something else), and I think I might be pleasantly surprised by it. The fact that the visuals keep getting better and better is just gravy (the added mist/fog in that forest level REALLY makes a different IMO). Haven't been the biggest KZ fan, but I am definitely impressed with how solid Guerrilla is with their games (especially since they seem to be improving). I believe they're supposed to be working on some RPG (maybe) for PS4, which I will definitely be interested in, especially if Shadowfall turns out to be great. Though now I have to catch-up on the story from the last few games before I play it.
I have a habit of reading plots on wikipedia of things I don't have to time to read/play/watch, so needless to say I know the plot of the KZ games even though I haven't played any. I'm on the same page as you, I think it's interesting (although not quite up to par with Halo's universe) and I'm really interested to see both halves of the game. Get with me around launch time we should play some of the multiplayer together. I also agree that it looks like Guerilla has improved greatly from their initial start. 9 years of development should result in some improvements and I'm really excited to see what they've come up with.
I was just about to post this. I ordered one of the Killzone launch bundles off amazon (I had credit with them) and cancelled my Sam's club order.
Already had one on pre-order from Amazon but I won one through the Taco Bell contest, pretty happy. That wasn't my main reason for coming to this thread though, was wondering what everyone is planning on buying for launch titles? So far I'm thinking NBA 2K14 for sure, followed by Battlefield 4 or Madden 25? Thoughts or suggestions regarding launch titles?
I think Killzone is a must buy if you like shooters. Cod looks like trash, and I've never particularly liked Battlefield (I've tried, believe me). The graphics are great, and all the previews I've seen / read are impressed with the gameplay changes / story. I also have Lego Marvel Super Heroes pre-ordered. I'm going to get 2K14 (since Live looks awful), but I might wait until December (Super Mario 3D World comes out next month too, ahhhhhh. Probably waiting on that one also). Tfj4: Also, congratulations you lucky b*stard.
I'm going with KZ, Knack, and NBA 2K14 for now. Also, Resogun. Throw in Contrast and maybe some of the F2P games, and I'll probably be good for a while (until Q1/Q2 2014, when other big hitters should...hit). edit: Just realized Resogun will be part of the PS+ IGC. I forgot about that. Awesome.
Yeah, Contrast is free also. Knack was really fun when I played it, but I'm spending a lot of time playing Rocksmith 2014. I'll rent Knack once Redbox starts having PS4 games for sure though. Side note: Game I'm most excited for (on PS4) is easily Infamous: Second Son (holy ****). Overall it's TitanFall on PS4 (it'll happen, 6 months or 1 year I'm guessing) but I'll probably have played it on PC quite a bit before then. The Order: 1886 looks amazing, but I need to see gameplay.
I can't decide whether I want to replace the HDD before playing any games, or just wait a year or so before replacing it (once I start to hit the 500GB limit, and I have a good idea of which HDDs would work best). But I could be hitting close to half of my HDD limit almost right away with the games I plan on getting.
