i rmb 1 of the game howard had already posted up so well that the opponent had to foul him and Bev was still trying to shot a 3.

McHale and staff finally have to put X's and Os on a whiteboard and drawing up plays. This R&R offense becomes stagnant when trying forcefully to feed Dwight.

If feeding Dwight becomes our staple diet offensively, we will be in trouble. If I were the opposition coach, I would welcome Rockets posting up Dwight instead of running PnR's.

First you push Dwight out of low post position. If he somehow establishes low position, front him. If he catches the ball down low, foul him ASAP. If he is out of position and far from the rim, let him catch the ball and play off of him. Encourage him to shoot from midrange and prevent drive by by give him space. If he does put the ball down, cave in the defenders and try to strip the ball.

Other teams have their playbooks on how to defend Dwight, and they don't vary much from one another.

I am not against running post plays for Dwight. I am only against Dwight asking for the ball when he isn't in a good post position. When Dwight tries to score from far out, it's like running the gauntlet when the defense established their position. It's downright ugly.

If he can't establish low position in a timely fashion, best option is to come out and run PnR with one of our guards.

Just wanted to add that 'm not sure if you've looked, but I've looked carefully at Lin's ability to feed the big in the paint, and Lin does a great job at it. As much as his fast break game, his ability to feed the big has been good even in college and in NY. He's passing at the right angle, leading the big in the proper direction, and with confidence and speed. Regardless, all our perimeter players must learn to feed the post better whether or not Dwight is good on the post as he commands sooo much attention.

They go to Colorado to have Lin and Dwight build a chemistry, DREAM says right away they will be deadly, then mchale gets back to training and never let's Lin be on the same team as Dwight in scrimmages?? Oh ok

Dwight won't show his true worth until the playoffs when the game slows down a bit.

I don't understand why this even worth a discussion, any common sense will suggest to have JLin + Howard to fully utilize Howard's forte on court to elevate attack and Bev + Howard (or Asik) to play full lock-down defense. The coach can alternate these combinations depending on the opposing team's strength (attacking or defense).

    Remember two things from off-season:
    1. Dwight stated that he would like to play with JLin
    2. They both trained with Hakeem in Alpin

It'll be a waste of money if McHale does not run Howard with JLin, and Dwight's post game will develop through the season learning from both McHale and Hakeem.

I forgot how much guys have to work to learn to pass it into a big guy. I don't get why it's that hard, especially for guys like Lin, Harden and Parsons, who are good passers. But I'm hopeful we will progress quite a bit in this. Bill Worrell mentioned in the game last night that the team hasn't even had a chance to work on making passes to the post yet.

Also, woohoo for making it to 17 posts before this thread became about Lin and McHale's supposedly poor treatment of him! Cause for celebration in the GARM.

Mchale said nobody on the team made good pass to Howard. So Lin's pass was not good either. In fact, when Mchale talked about throwing the ball while Howard was not looking, he might be talking about Lin.

Good points all. But it is not the regular season. The coaches and players are just sketching on the canvass. And they get 4 days to work on it before the next game.

I personally see no cause for celebration.

I don’t expect dwight to turn into this offensive skilled big man with post moves similar to dream. We got dwight here as a upgrade to Asik for 2 reasons (1) because of his shot blocking (2) his ability to catch the ball and finish at the rim with less problems than asik.

Asik is arguably a better rebounder and defensive center because with his ability to protect the rim and rotate on defense and guard the P&R. minus the (shot-blocking)

What I do expect is Mchale to figure out how are we going to use the upgraded skill of our new superstar which is finishing in the p&R and catching/finishing around the rim. The shot blocking will come natural.

It's going to take them some time but they will get it together. I'm thinking around the 20th game mark. Once they learn exactly where Howard wants the ball, have the proper spacing and movement once the feed the Big man down low. We will be a force to reckon with good peeps.

    Didn't see anybody say that.

I saw people say "Don't over-react to a few preseason miscues".

    Don't make things up.
