Sony had an event in Japan last night to handle various announcements/reveals, including the launch details for PS4 in Japan (coming in Feb 2014 I think, doubt that matters to anyone here).

The only "big" thing you guys might care about is that we saw some more of Deep Down (the Capcom game from the PS4 reveal event):
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Psw07YbY70U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/OaVl1atbUDc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
    Details:
Some of that was known before (Capcom showed a bit of the game a month or two ago I think).

They announced some Japanese games for PS4 (Yakuza, EDF, Gundam, a Suda51 game, etc.), but not really a lot that would get US gamers interested I think (mostly all ports/cross-platform stuff too).

A Vita/PS4 PR video (a little more on the functionality of the two):
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/VWplhhktgqs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This included shots of the new Vita TV device Sony is releasing. Basically, for ~$100, you get a screen-less Vita that you can hook up to your TV (use a DualShock to control the games). Supposed to support Remote Play and various other Vita things.

More Vita stuff there (price cut, new model, bigger memory card, etc.), though not sure if anyone cares. Not much more PS4 stuff. No FF7 remake or anything.

What's Deep Down like? From the look and feel it seems to be similar to Souls to me.

Not a lot to go one, but yeah, Souls/Dragon's Dogma seems appropriate. Universe sounds Assassin's Creed-esque (the future element), and being online only, maybe will have more MMO/social stuff.

I read yesterday that there was suppose to be an announcement that we were all waiting for. What was the big announcement? Deep down, new vita, japan ps4 release date? Alot of people were speculating TLG, but it's still mia.

Pretty sure it was just the PS4 launch details in Japan. Think people took that comment out of context and ran with it.

    Like usual.

Bumping this thread for a cool indie game announced for PS4/Vita:

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/9pwgt7UY9Jw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Think there will be more at TGS. Love the look (and sound).

Eh...guess I can throw in some stuff about the event last night. Here are some trailers from the event, which had to be translated in real-time to English:
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/yqBe6RYXicA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ehEo5nGAOKA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Epj-he42g60" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
As you might imagine, that very challenging task lead to some pretty funny translations.

I'm not a Guilty Gear guy, but I really like how these games are looking (good look for this kind of "art"):
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/EFxt11xu2AU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you want to watch the full thing, here it is:
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/P5lMa1ctZ6A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
But I didn't even bother doing that myself, so unless you really like these Japanese games, not sure I'd recommend it. Japan apparently was very happy with the event (despite the PS4 arriving "late").

More like, Sony hyped up an announcement that ended up being nothing of much importance (we expected a japan release date) , like usual.

The PS4 announcement/reveal was hyped up. This wasn't. That comment was just usual pre-event teasing. I almost missed it myself (wasn't it just hours before, and I think just on some Twitter account or something?).

People overreacted to it. Sony isn't going to reveal some big (unexpected) thing via that (nor would anyone). I'd have to check the responses again, but I think most (reasonable) people expected launch details from that news (as did I).

But if people want to take any teasing to mean that FF7 Remake, TLG, Occulus Rift, etc., is being revealed, they can go right ahead (and continue to be disappointed).

edit: Oh, I missed the comment was deleted. So I bet Sony even recognized people would misinterpret it, but they were too late.

TGS is going on, and there were a few PS4 related things (nothing major IMO). At the Sony keynote, they showed off the mobile app for PS, which seemed pretty cool I guess (about what you'd expect from this kind of thing). They showed Remote Play through Vita TV, which seemed to work well (apparently there isn't any lag in their demos). They talked about how the camera will support voice and facial recognition. Also plan to sell/ship 5 million PS4s by the end of March 2014 I believe (I can't decide if that seems too high or too low). Video capture over HDMI will be supported. Gaikai PS3 streaming still planned for NA release in 2014 (for PS4, Vita, and Vita TV). They showed off Deep Down and some MGS5 gameplay (though I think the latter might have been from PS3).

The new thing in Japan seems to be providing real-time English translations of Japanese (sometimes spoken by English speakers). It can make boring presentations seem...somewhat entertaining. IGN put up a stream on Youtube that covered most of these events (and also replayed the Sony keynote at the end for some reason). If you want to check it out in full:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKCzt3W5fuc
Maybe best to just ready the blogs/summaries, and then catch the video of Deep Down and MGS5 elsewhere though.

    Minor TGS update for PS(4).

Between this and other recent events, I feel like we're finally starting to see enough of Deep Down. I've kind of been all over the place with it. Impressive tech demo during PS4 reveal. Disappointing screens when the game was revealed later. Gameplay sounded meh to me too, though maybe just needed some clarification (was pushed as an online/MMO game, though later they made it known you could play it like a single player game).

But recent videos from TGS make the game look really good IMO (the trailer is pretty nice too):
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/0N5oItJiIds" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/WRyeLA8VT44" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/VW-_yDGDNyo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Still rough in some areas, but the lighting looks really nice (definitely next-gen), and I *think* it is running at 1080p/60 FPS, which is pretty impressive (especially with online focus). Gameplay looks a little rougher. Kind of clunky. Hard to tell without playing it myself, though definitely need to improve camera and a few other things. But not too bad I think (and maybe satisfies that "next-gen dark fantasy" desire).

Turns out the game will be F2P, which I guess throws another wrinkle into it all. I've not played a lot of F2P games, but I do agree that this might be a bad "fit" for a game like this (or what many thought/wanted this game to be). Maybe Capcom will do it right, but there apparently aren't made good F2P games that do this right (and Japan seems the worst at it). They are planning an open beta around the launch of the PS4 in Japan. Still don't know about NA plans, but I think they were interested in pushing the game here too.

More MGS5 (first vid is same as from stream I posted earlier, but better quality I think):
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/tl4tC4K5n0w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Pe7U3IJZ4B4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I thought it was PS3 since they didn't make a big fuss about it, but I think it might have been the PS4 version being demoed (framerate and other things look better). Looks good. The gameplay is very different (more "casual") compared to previous MGS games, though I know Kojima has expressed that he is open to feedback about these changes (can maybe turn them on/off). Speaking of the next-gen versions, Kojima has stressed that other than some better textures, higher resolution, and 60 FPS, there isn't much difference.

Gamersyde has some videos on various games from the show floor:
    http://www.gamersyde.com/
Killzone looks a little better, as do some others. Nothing really new though.

They explain the camera features a bit more. I think it sounds like it won't do much more than allow for easy profile selection (facial recognition), and the ability to quickly launch into games ("Playstation, play Knack" or whatever). Which probably is some of the more useful stuff, but guess they don't want you to expect much more than that (and who knows how well that will even work).

PS4 kiosks are starting to pop up. There should be more (Best buy, Gamestop, etc) in the next few days / weeks. With that said here in Houston it's at the Sony store in the Galleria. I'm going to likely go check it out tomorrow. I have a preorder for a PS4, but coming from 360 I'm still a little weary (there's also the fact that most of the games I want to play are Xbox exclusives...Titanfalllllll...but I digress). I'm also updating creating a new Xbox / PS4 poll. Just curious if people's opinions have changed.

    Anyone else getting excited?

Only preordered one of these to try & flip it during Christmas when they're impossible to find. Thinking about cancelling my preorder though. This rarely works out.

Will games released for both consoles like AC4 have any graphical upgrades over the PS3 version?

Over PS3? Absolutely. I wouldn't expect it to blow your mind, in most cases. Battlefield 4 (based on DICE comments) could impress if you're into that sort of thing. In a few months / years? It won't even be close (if it even is right now).

Having 1080p/60 FPS is a pretty nice improvement in and of itself.

Well, BF4 might not hit that, but it isn't even 720p on PS3 IIRC, so 720p/900p/whatever is a nice improvement, along with better textures and all that.

There have been some videos showing off the PS4 version of AC4 specifically. Think it has some better water effects, among other things. Still obviously a current-gen game ported to PS4, but it does look a lot nicer IMO.

Yeah, I was just curious about game being introduced now on both consoles where it's more of a port to the new console instead of the other way around.

I figured as much. Like RC said, in some cases it will be drastic. I think the only multiplatform games I'm getting now will be Lego Marvel Superheroes, and either NBA 2K14 or Live 14 (it's going to suck again!). :)
