Just curious, is this related to the civilization series at all? I have been out of the game loop for years.
It is a turn based strategy game involving civilizations. Other than that...not really. Different developer and not part of the same series or anything. Alpha Centauri is kind of the "sci-fi" Civilization game.
I've been playing Endless Space on and off for about a year. Good 4x game, active development. No where as deep as Civ4, but then again, what is? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Hw87CXwjpKI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I think I tried Endless Space for an hour or two before I got bored. You could always try Europa Universalis if you want something deep.
Same here when it first came out. I tried it again about half a year later. They've added a lot to it. Again, if you're spoiled by Civ4 or one of the other granddaddy content-rich 4X games, it won't hold your interest forever.
Any of you guys getting the "early release"/Alpha version on Steam for $99.99? I can't stand paying that much money for alpha releases, but it seems the industry is heading towards this kind of garbage now. The only reason I think I may spring for it is because it will include all future DLC's/expansions which may make it worth it since Stardock does do a good job of supporting their products, and it's not like they're some unheard of company. Anyways, the Alpha for $99.99 is only supposed to be available through April and then a discounted Beta version will be up in May. That version will be less than the price of the release version from what I understand, but of course, you won't get all future expansions for "free". Not sure if I would pay $99 now and wait on the content for years to come. They have had a good reputation in the past but its still a risk. Frankly, I don't like the idea of paying them to test out their unfinished game. Probably going to wait and see how the game turns out. I prefer finished products rather than not enjoying something that is incomplete.
Sorry, I love this series but I can't support paying for Alpha...especially at that price. Will be keeping a eye on it though as always.
To me, I don't look at it as supporting an Alpha, but rather getting future DLC's and expansions upon release for cheaper. Of course, you're taking a leap of faith that the game won't be a dud, too. Decisions, decisions ...
