As much as I dislike White he cannot shoot the way Casspi can. Nor will he ever be able to shoot like Casspi. There's no way Morey would have passed on Casspi if he was picking in the twenties in the 09 draft. And if Morey had drafted Casspi at 23 in 09, Casspi would be making Ryan Anderson money today.
"We think Royce is an elite talent—top five talent in this last draft, which was very deep. Obviously if we're getting him at 16 in the draft, there's going to be something wrong."--Morey http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2012/11/27/daryl-morey-royce-white-houston-rockets/1730647/ Those guys you mention doesn't have the talent to make it to top 5 of a draft.
I am so glad that didn't happen so we can have him cheap and perhaps driving down Parsons' price along the way.
Mark Deeks article on team options vs partially guaranteed contracts. It has lots of info on Casspi's contract.
I believe taht for some time, Casspi was aiming to go to either Houston or San Antonio (who were reportedly high on him prior to the draft and after his rookie season). He was specifically looking for a place where he would fit and be able to play a style that he liked and have a chance at minutes. I truly believe his main goal is to succeed in the NBA. He could make more money in Europe, but that's simply not what he wants. So that's why I think that he didn't mind having the second year unguaranteed.
