Re: Franklins If you want a work around at Franklins just order ahead as a group, you show up at 10:30 - skip the line and walk out with the goods. DD
I am under the impression that people have caught on..and the next available date to order ahead is some time in December.
Nah, it is about 2 weeks they have a published google calendar -sometimes less time others about 2 weeks. DD
Ignore dada. If you don't want to deal with franklins check out john muellers a little more east For Lockhart all the places have become very hit or miss lately. It's unfortunate, I used to really like smittys But if you are wanting to stop on the drive back head down to luling and get BBQ at city market
Ignore you ! LOL - I agree that Mueller's is good...... Franklins though is more like a "place to be seen" now than anything - the brisket is great, but the rest is just ok....IMO. It is like that they are the "In" thing and everyone wants to say they stood in line. We like it, our office has ordered in about 4 times, but IMO - Kruez rub is superior..... Again, just our offices opinion. DD
Blacks is horrible, haven't been to Kreuz but I really liked Smittys. For those discussing Austin, John Muellers on E. 6th is awesome and they have free booze (bloody mary/screw driver bar and lone star) on Sundays and most Saturdays.
This. Granted, I haven't tried any of the newer Austin joints, but nothing has beaten City Market. Pecan Lodge in Dallas and Corkscrew BBQ in the Woodlands come close, but not quite.
I actually like Lamberts bbq too. I know it's hipster yuppie, but if you ask them for the fatty brisket, it's good. the sauces are good too as well as the fried okra.

Ok my plan is to try to go for lunch at LA BBQ, during lunch tomorrow or thursday. On the way back I'm going to eat at Kruetz and but a lb of brisket and a sausage at blacks, smitty's and city market...to go of course.
There was a time when the places to go for great Texas BBQ were places like Coopers, Salt Lick, Kreutz/Smitty's, etc. but I think those days are probably gone from everything I've heard. OP : the only place in Lockhart I've been to is Kreuz, and I went there on the same day I went to Snow's. After the brisket I had at Snow's, Kreuz had no chance. It was alright, but not up to par with what Snow's was putting out. I'm hoping to hit up a few BBQ joints in Austin like LA Barbecue and Mueller's place later this year as well as maybe Louie Mueller's and a couple of Memphis spots. Can't wait.
Living in Texas, I might say that. But having had New York BBQ, and LA BBQ, I can't really say that anymore. In LA now, there's some pretty decent BBQ. But those places are very few and very far between. They also don't match the best BBQ places in any city in Texas. There's one place in Queens that's okay in NY, but the rest are barely edible. When I'd come back to Texas from NY, I'd be happy just to be able to go through the Drive-Thru at (what was then) Luthers. It wasn't great BBQ, but so convenient and so much better than anything I could get in NYC.
