I agree with his assessment of Casspi. The main thing we'll need to see is if he can actually guard opposing starter quality 4's. I think he has the body and athleticism to do it. But if that shot stays hot and the rebounds keep coming who knows. There were a couple of lineups with him at the 4 and D-Mo at the 5 that actually weren't too shabby at all.
I like this idea, but only if the other team's lineup dictates it. It feels so god dang goood to have D12 or Asik on the floor at all times.
True. Basically what I'm seeing is this... if D-Mo and Casspi can continue to improve we will be able to match up with anyone and everyone.
Surprised Thorpe changed his tune so quickly. He was with the rest of the mainstream sports media sleeping on us, putting us only in the top 8-12 range next year.
wasn't he the guy that said the Rockets offseason wast good or impressive or somthin like that or is that some other guy ?
Thorpe is a media w****. I personally do not listen to any of the ESPN commentators except for those that were hired away from incredibly influential websites in the last 10 months. Losing Hollinger was an incredible blow.
For what it's worth, I believe that Thorpe has always been high on Casspi. Three good preseasons games and the expectations of Casspi have skyrocketed. I guess from know on he can only disappoint many fans. I'm happy he's started out so well, but people should temper expectations a bit.
Everybody talks about guarding opposing 4s all I know is zbo Perkins ibaka et al will have issues chasing casspi around if we run plays for him that draws these bigs away from the basket. That opens up the lane for others. We should be able to punish teams for playing big 4s.
Thanks for posting. Thorpe seems to be rethinking his prediction for Rockets (that they won't be top 3 in Western Conference). Liked what he had to say about Dwight's intensity in the games against Pacers, and what that said about Rockets' chances
