I do know that Camby was frustrated a bit with not getting PT in New York under Woodson. Camby had some minor injuries, but nothing serious to put him out for the year. He didn't get much PT even when healthy because Woodson opted to go super small often. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baske...he-knicks-and-with-trade-to-toronto-1.5600565 I'm not entirely sure that Camby will be healthy at all this season, but its worth a shot. He's only a year removed from being one of the better starting defensive bigs in the league as we saw firsthand when he quickly beat out Dalembert for the starting spot a year and 1/2 ago. Maybe he declined rapidly and will never walk on the basketball court again, but IMO its worth taking a shot at over keeping someone like Covington or Williams who will have much less of an impact if healthy.
They are NOT trading Lin just to make room for the 15th man on the roster. They might trade Greg Smith or one of Jones/D-Mo but they aren't trading their 4th/5th best player and 2nd best attacking guard (which is very important to their offense) for the 15th man on their roster to make the team. Lin will only be traded in a large deal where there is an equally or more high impact player coming back to them in the deal.
We would have to throw something else in, but it certainly makes sense. Rockets get to keep Asik, and you finally have that true stretch PF you've been looking for.
Ersan Ilyasova isn't "an equally or more high impact player?" Of course he is. Trade Lin with either Motiejunas or Jones for Lin, cut Williams, there's your 15 man roster. Maybe you throw in Smith and get back Brandon Knight if you prefer Knight as your third guard over Aaron Brooks or Isaiah Canaan. I like Knight as a rotation guy but not as a starter.
Reggie and Greg Smith - the first simply because he hasn't been able to show anything and Brewer is more valuable as a defensive specialist since Garcia / Casspi will be our wing rotation off the bench. Greg Smith because he just can't stay out of foul trouble and I'm sure the Rockets will value Camby's leadership and veteran presence over Smith.
That's a conversation for the Random Trade Thread. There has been no reported talks of a Lin/D-Mo for Ilyasova/Knight trade outside of the clutchfans forum. As for who has more impact- Read this thread- (it has its statistical flaws to keep in mind, but the theory is spot on) http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=244824 In the Rockets offense, Ilyasova or any other PF put in this rotation will have their touches seriously diminished. Ilyasova might or might not be the better player, but his (or any other PF's) role on this team needs to be taken account for when trading away your 2nd best attacking guard.... which again... is more important to this teams offense than the person for whom they are setting up open shots for. The Rockets are NOT trading Lin for a player that is only adding duplication for what other players like Casspi, Parsons, & small ball can do in that role already. Also... again... they just aren't trading Lin so there is really no need to dive deeper into this. Keep the conversation surrounding the 17 players currently on the roster and keep the random trades to the random trade thread.
It's going to be either Reggie Williams and Camby cut, or Reggie Williams cut and Greg Smith traded for a 2nd round pick.
No sure. We haven't heard much at all about Reggie's injury. At this point though if I'm Reggie, it doesn't matter if I've got a pulled hammy or some plantar faciitis, I'm seeing guys like Casspi light it up and feeling the heat... I'd have to be on my deathbed to not suit up for these next couple games. He's pretty close to being cut here soon IMO if he can't get healthy quick and show something.
Having just watched this vid, my 1st impression was as follows. CWeb's listed as 6-10, but looks to be an inch shorter than McHale who's also listed as 6-10. However, Casspi's listed as 6-9, but looks to be 2 inches taller than McHale. This changes my opinion as to Casspi playing pf. He might be a little light to guard pfs, but they won't be able to shoot over him. Therefore my picks to not make the final roster come from: by cuts-Brewer, Brooks, Covington, Williams thru trades-Smith, TJ, DMo I'm leaning towards 2 by cuts.
Who is going to give us a 2nd for smith when we have no leverage and will have to end up cutting him anyways?
Listed height is always skeptical 'at best'. Omri and Chandler are between 6'9 and 6'10, and Dwight is about 6'10. People can appear bigger with camera angles, stance and depending on shoes they r wearing that day or their hairstyle. Both Chandler and Omri are a tad bit shorter than Dwight, who is at least 2 inches below Omer. Either way, all 3 could play PF, and most likely will. Not concerned with defense there, remember, Luis Scola is prolly a bottom 5 defender at the 4, but he was fine when Yao played, cuz no one wanted to drive with Yao in the paint.
That's sort of my thought already. Sort of the downside to Smith having the contract he has with so much power being in the hands of the Rockets to waive at any point with no cost. Other GM's know at this point that he's out of the rotation and has a non-guaranteed contract. Its simply going to have to come down to multiple teams being really high on him enough to bid over him. I think alot of teams would love to have him, especially on that contract, but I dont think he's well regarded enough around the league to create a bidding war. The Rockets aren't going to trade D-Mo or Jones just to make room the 15th man so we can just throw that one out the window. They'd have to get a really good pick coming back to make that deal worthwhile. More than likely its just going to come down to the Rockets sacrificing either Covington (who is a nice looking rookie but needs alot of work and time to develop) or them waiving a veteran like Brewer, Camby, or Brooks who they would like to have later on during the season along with Williams. If they are truly about winning now I think Williams and Covington go, and the Rockets dont trade Smith. He could be useful to them at points in time during the season even if he doesn't play alot.
How does the team have no leverage? If Smith is cut, somebody picks him up. If an injured Marcus Camby gets cut, nobody picks him up. So if you want Smith, make an offer, but you won't be getting him for nothing.
We are back at 18, remember even if you’re on roster & go down to D-league you still count as one of the 15 (maximum) roster spots. 1 Omer Asik 2 Patrick Beverley 3 Ronnie Brewer 4 Aaron Brooks 5 Marcus Camby 6 Isaiah Canaan 7 Omri Casspi 8 Robert Covington 9 Francisco Garcia 10 James Harden 11 Dwight Howard 12 Terrence Jones 13 Jeremy Lin 14 Donatas Motiejunas 15 Chandler Parsons 16 Greg Smith 17 Reggie Williams 18 Troy Daniels
Cannan, Covington, Daniels to DLeague. Howard/Asik Casspi/DMo/TJones Parsons/Garcia Harden/Brewer Lin/Bev/Brooks That's 15.
