Yeah I don't think Pau makes the most sense for us - but involving a 3rd team who could use him to contend might be worthwhile - maybe Toronto or Washington? I don't know what either would have that we could want besides picks though.

Nooooo. Not Gasol and Howard together again. Its LA all over again. Maybe a 3 way trade with Min and Lakers.

Asik and Lin going to LA with LA shipping Gasol to Min and Min packing Love to Hou.

our line up would sound way better.

    Beverley
    Harden
    Parsons
    Love
    Howard

and then we can trade either Motie or Jones and either pick up picks or send either of them with our first / second rounder and pick up young good PG.

    1. Minnesota is not interested on Love for Pau right now.

    2. IF Minnesota were interested in Love for Pau then the Lakers would take Love themselves over Asik and Lin. Thank you very much.

A three team trade with Minny & LA makes sense ONLY if Love has formally requested a trade and the team is granting him his wish because.... well they just want to be nice.
    ........................................................................................................
IF that does happen at some point in the season Love & Minny come to this agreement, then yes I agree its a good trade for everyone.

-LAL could really use Asik as a foundational piece for the future, and at 8.4 mil he's probably a better fit & will probably come cheaper than re-signing Gasol. They aren't going to get a better long term franchise big man for less than that.

After LA renounces the rights to Kobe, the Lakers will still have enough salary cap space to sign TWO max free agents even after acquiring Asik. Assuming Kobe resigns for say... 3 years/ 45 million they can re-acquire Kobe & a max salary contract & stay relatively flexible with the rest of their roster.

-For Minny, IF they are going to move Love, getting Gasol & Houstons wad of first round picks (needed for sure) wouldn't be terrible. You would probably also throw D-Mo in the deal as well to give them some young talent.

Gasol is still the best passing big man in basketball, and would be the best Adelman big man since Brad Miller & Webber played under him in Sacramento. Not only would I love watching them on league pass, they would also be the #1 NBA team in Spain for what its worth.

    -For Houston, Kevin Love.... yeah.

(Keep dreaming guys..... Kevin Love isn't going anywhere)

Jeff Green for Asik and/or fillers? I know Jeff Green would be a good fit. Versatile, can knock down corner 3s, athletic and good finisher inside. I would rather have Jeff Green than Ryan Anderson.

I think someone who might be under-valued and could be had for the right price is Mirza Teletovic from the Nets. I think he would be a great fit next Howard at the 4 spot. Last year, he averaged close to 10 minutes a game. He seems like a poor man's Ryan Anderson.

Maybe a 1st Round pick and one of the Euro players for Teletovic.

This gave me a Bill Cosby Jell-O pudding smile.

Except that I'm white. And, by comparison, monetarily-challenged.

I thought of the Pau Gasol angle before and didn't post it. Probably has crossed more than a few so-called minds around here.

When Pau was at the elbow/free-throw line, he tore up opposing teams with his passing.

You'd definitely solve the need for a 4/5 rather than a 5/5. And we'd free up money next year.

But it seems Morey might finally want to actually build chemistry with a young core. You could say, "Well, Pau has another good 3 or 4 years left," which is probably true, but he recently stated he isn't into the idea of a big pay cut, so I don't know what it's take to keep him (unless we let him go and jump into the free agent market).

Anyway, I think the Lakers are banking on dreams for the summer of 2014. Rather than Asik + Lin now, they want to keep cap space to sign (think like a Lakers fan; er, "think" is for lack of a better word) Carmelo + LeBron + Bosh + Jesus Returned-as-the-Lion.

Yeah, agree. Randolph just turned 24 in late July; his frame has bulked up lately. Weird thing about him is I see him do good stuff on the court-- but rarely, the few times I get to see him, because he hardly ever plays. I wonder why. Locker room cancer? Utter suckage when he plays, when I'm not watching?

Still hoping TJ will step his game up. Seems like there's 1-2 microseconds of hesitation in a lot of what he does on the court. And then, when he doesn't hesitate, he looks All-World. Fingers crossed.

    Meanwhile, D-Mo looks stronger.

I assume this was directed at me. Could be wrong.

I agree to a point. We need to see how Asik/Howard, current PFs/Howard, stretch 4s/Howard mesh before doing anything too dramatic.

That said, Morey can find PGs. Brooks/Lowry/Dragic/Lin/Beverley prove that Morey has a special eye for the position and can weed out the pretenders from the contributors.

If Lin or Asik are the contracts necessary to get a deal done to bring in a quality PF, then the question is who is easier to replace:

    a) a distributing/driving PG

    or

    b) a 7' tall elite defensive center

The answer has and always will be "a".

I agree that we wait, but if the Bucks need a quality PG and knowing that they are very high on Papanikolaou, you make the deal to bring in the PERFECT PF fit next to Howard (Ilyasova).

Unless its clear Asik wants to walk, I wouldn't want to lose him for Pau. Don't get me wrong, I love Pau's game. But he's always either playing hurt or missing 15+ games, which will only get worse at his age. I'd rather try to get him in free agency and not deplete the bench.

    Salary Cap Question

    Hypothetical Trade

    Rockets IN - Ilyasova (4 years @ $7,900,000)

Bucks IN - T. Jones, D MO, Greg Smith, I. Caanan, 2014 1st round pick (Total of $4,429,368)

The trade machine says the Rockets would need to cut $1,155,948 to make this happen.

Could the Rockets apply the $2,625,000 MLE to the remaining salary they need to get rid of in order to make the salaries match?

    $2,625,000 - $1,155,948 = $1,469,025 MLE left

Not sure if my question makes any sense at all. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

    Screw It..!! Why Not ??!?!?

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mcftul3

Hou Out/Toronto In: Lin/GregSmith/(2nd or rights to k.Pap)whichever they prefer.
    Hou In/Toronto Out: Lowry/Novak

Toronto Outlook: They have a diverse culture and Lin would be a big draw. Plus he could be a potential star for them and a risk they may be willing to take instead of sticking with the mediocrity they currently are. They get a backup f/c who is a cheap solid role player. gain a 2nd or prospect.

Houston outlook: Bring back lowry who is a good fit that can knock down the 3 and defend. novak is a perfect fit stretch 4 role player.

    Thoughts?

It wouldn't fly. Lowry and McHale clashed a bit, and I don't think Morey would want to "go back to go forward".

Besides, if we aim for another point guard, let's aim for a Rondo.

Steve Novak is owed $11 mil total through 2015-16. No thanks! Very one-dimensional player who should be getting one year minimum salary deals.

The mid-level only applies when signing a player. Not trading for them. If for some reason a player gets waived during the season, the Rockets could use their mini mid-level to sign that player.

If the Rockets want to trade for Ilyasova or any other player in that salary range, they are most likely going to need to send out Asik, or Lin either way.

Brandon Knight had a proverbial "break out game" last night, and if he continues to play well this preseason, I no longer see a market for Jeremy Lin. I think there is a pretty strong chance that Lin stays with Houston, at least through the 2014-15 season.

Having said that, Milwaukee has a lot of reasons to be excited about John Henson, so I believe that Ersan Ilyasova is available. My suggestion is to think about three-team deals wherein Ilyasova goes to Houston, Asik goes to a mystery third team (Boston? Portland?), and the mystery third team sends a pick-prospects-expiring contracts package to Milwaukee.

    For example:

    Ilyasova to Houston

    Asik to Portland

C.J. McCollom and Robin Lopez (expiring contract) to Milwaukee

This deal allows Houston to then flip either Terrence Jones or Donatas Motiejunas for a first round pick. Cut Reggie Williams and you have your fifteen man roster entering the season.

    Starting lineup

    PG Jeremy Lin
    SG James Harden
    SF Chandler Parsons
    PF Ersan Ilyasova
    C Dwight Howard

    Remaining rotation players

    Patrick Beverly
    Francisco Garcia
    Omri Casspi
    Greg Smith

    End of the bench

    Terrence Jones or Donatas Motiejunas
    Ronnie Brewer
    Aaron Brooks
    Marcus Camby

    Stashed in the developmental league

    Isaiah Canaan
    Robert Covington
