Thanks to JR for contributing to the topic at hand. In joining in with the thread derailment, I'll say this: if it's not Schaub, Keenum, of the two, is the only one that might potentially have "it". It's a serious long shot, but its possible. As far as the poster that called his arm weak....I don't know if you watched in the preseason where he consistently overthrew deep routes....
Why do people think Schaub will start next week? He is gonna be out a few weeks. He has an ankle AND foot injury on the same foot as his lisfranc. If Case comes in and lights it up then we have seen the last of Schaub in a Texans uni.
I'm hoping for the best for Schaub as he represents this team's greatest chance to compete, which a small part of me believes they can still do. If Schaub can't go, though, let's see what Keenum can do. Put up or shut up time. We've burned through one backup, for those complaining about Schaub. Keenum, aka The Great White Hope, will either deliver or not, but at least it would be a step towards ending all the controversy going on- at least for this year...
Even with Schaub is going to be a longggg season. Might as well let the kid from the University of Houston start against the Chiefs. Worst case scenerio Texans go 5-11 and they win the draft tiebreakers because of the Jags maybe going winless this year.
Yeah, I'm guessing Yates starts, Keenum is activated and Schaub is inactive. Whenever Schaub is healed or healthy enough, he'll get the job back.
With a big hug and a smooch on the lips from Kubiak. Kubiak loves Schaub no matter how inept he is. The only way anything changes for good is, to fire Kubiak.
It's not that Kubiak loves Schaub, it's that there's no better options on the roster. The Schaub/Rosenfels battle was somewhat heated, there's a reason Yates/Keenum cant seem to get on the field.
The Texans want you to believe that they've NEVER had a better option than Schaub in the time that the current regime has been in place. (In what 7 or 8 years?) If that's the case, we've been wasting our time all along. The Schaub & Kubiak combo isn't winning big in the NFL.
I think we need change for the sake of change. The case study is over, it's been too long. But I do not feel that Keenum or Yates is more capable than Schaub at this time. I know it's cool to hate on Kubiak, fair enough, but to really think he wouldn't play the best QB on the roster is idiotic. He's putting the guy that he feels gives us the best change to win on the field, and believe it or not, he has a pretty damn good idea of what each QB can do. We have the opportunity to win more games with Schaub on the field than with Yates, but we'll probably never win a Superbowl with Schaub. It is what it is.
If you don't believe Yates or Keenum has it, then that's fair, you have little reason to believe otherwise. But it's time to move on at the QB position in the off-season.
They definitely need to find a new QB (as well as coach), but this team has the talent to compete now. I don't like the idea of drafting and waiting to see if that player develops. But I'm also afraid of trading for or signing the likes of Cassel, Flynn or Kolb. We all know the problem, but the solution is not quite as obvious (and I don't think the solution is currently on the team).
We remain in cap hell with or without Schaub. They are in the situation where either: A) the solution is already on the roster B) the solution is in next years draft C) you get lucky on the cheap with a guy like the ones you listed. Biggest upside remains in next years draft
But that isn't the case - at this point i think it is perfectly acceptable to question exactly what motivates kubiak b/c winning sure as hell isn't it. if he was concernend with winning joe marciano would've been fired 3 years ago. if he was concerned with winning, frank-f'ing-bush would have NEVER been hired. if he was concerned with winning he would have brought in at least one competent veteran qb to light a fire under schaub's ass. if he was concerned with winning he wouldn't be running the EXACT SAME OFFENSE that has not only won him exactly ZERO in 8 years, it has been become so predictable that even TV announcers are calling his plays pre-snap! in my totally honest opinion, kubiak is more corncerned with maintaining control from top-to-bottom than he has ever been with winning. he has final say in practically EVERY football-related decision of this organization - including the hiring of his own "boss"! Kubiak was handed the keys to the kingdom on day one - and all he has done since is try to consolidate power as much possible. would he like to win? sure. is that really a concern of his? every damn sign points to HELL NO.
Because the QB position is not a position where you try out a player for one or two drives and then play Matt. Your QB is your QB and plays all of every game unless he's hurt or his team is blowing the other team out. Case has only looked good in any time he's played. The same must be true in practice because he went from being undrafted to 3rd string QB.
No, it's time to move on now. Right now. Same with coach. Kubiak should be fired and Keenum should start. It would be impossible for a temporary head coach (probably Wade) to do any worse, and it would be impossible for Keenum to do worse than Schaub. Does anyone think that Keenum would throw a pick six for four consecutive games? What would be the odds of that? To defend the status quo is nuts.
They showed an interesting little infographic during last week's game, detailing the worst 4 game stretches of Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees' careers. Each of them had a stretch in the middle of their careers where they played worse than Schaub has this year. Now, not to say Schaub has anywhere near the cache built up that those guys did at that point in time. But the point is, sometimes guys hit slumps, even the best of the best. I think Schaub is all but done as the Texans QB next year (barring some miraculous playoff run), but I also think he deserves the chance to right the ship. When the Texans are eliminated, I support going to Keenum. That's not an endorsement of Schaub as much as it is a lack of faith in Keenum (and especially Yates). Schaub, for better or worse, is our best chance at salvaging this season.
I think a distinction needs to be made...when talking about Keenum's arm, most are referring to zip on the ball. In other words, throwing a 20-25 yard strike. Keenum can throw the ball deep...but that doesnt necessarily equate to great arm strength. If you look at how Vick, Rivers, Rodgers, Stafford...those guys laser the ball on a rope. Every QB...yes, even Schaub, can throw the ball 50 yards in the air. Almost every QB in college can do that as well...but that's not the arm strength analysts, scouts, etc... refer to when discussing the arm of a QB.
