Louisville coach Charlie Strong told the players on his his team that Thursday night's nationally televised game with Rutgers will give the whole country a chance to watch them play. Inside the stadium, there will be a large contingent of NFL scouts on hand.

Louisville TV station WDRB reported there will be at least 26 NFL scouts in attendance, from 20 teams. Jacksonville has asked for three credentials, including one for Jaguars GM David Caldwell. Pittsburgh will also have its GM, Kevin Colbert, present. And Tampa Bay is sending Eric Stokes, the team's director of scouting, the station reported.

The main attraction will be Louisville junior quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who sits atop a lot of draft boards and is the No. 3-rated passer in Bucky Brooks' college football quarterback rankings. Bridgewater (listed by Louisville at 6-foot-3, 196 pounds) is averaging 312.4 passing yards per game, with 16 TDs and one interception, and he is completing 71.7 percent of his passes.

Bridgewater has been a topic of speculation over the last few days. On Tuesday, a New York Post columnist suggested the New York Giants -- if in position to do so -- draft Bridgewater as Eli Manning's successor. And on Wednesday, on the College Football 24/7 podcast, draft analysts Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks discussed Bridgewater as a prospect and the Giants and Steelers as possible fits.

While Brooks liked the idea of replacing Manning with Bridgewater, Jeremiah said the Louisville quarterback would not be an upgrade over Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh.

"If the Steelers have a top-5 pick, they should trade it for four offensive linemen. They are so bad up front," Jeremiah said. "I believe in Roethlisberger. I believe you put the pieces around Roethlisberger."

Jeremiah, a former scout for three NFL teams, continued: "From the grades I've handed out, I'd have (Bridgewater) behind (Matthew) Stafford, I'd have him in that Ryan Tannehill group, probably I'd have him behind RG III. I'd have him over (Mark) Sanchez when he came out. I liked Alex Smith when he came out, so grade-wise I'd have him right there with Alex Smith."

The scouts could see a prolific night from Bridgewater; he will be throwing against a Rutgers secondary that surrendered 484 passing yards to SMU, 456 to Fresno State and 335 to Eastern Michigan.

Also of interest to scouts in Thursday's game will be Rutgers junior wide receiver Brandon Coleman. At 6-6, 220 pounds, he has an intriguing combination of size, speed and production. Coleman had 43 receptions for 718 yards (16.7 yards per catch) and 10 TDs last season but has struggled some this season, with 15 receptions for 220 yards (14.7 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. He missed spring drills after what was described as a minor knee surgery, and he hasn't looked as fast as he did last season. Still, at his best, Coleman is physical and quick, and his size poses a huge problem for opposing corners and safeties.

While Bridgewater and Coleman will be the night's stars, Strong said the game is a chance for his whole team to show off.

"What happens is you get the whole country watching your game, and a lot of the recruits you want get the chance to get a good look at your program," he said in his weekly teleconference. "A lot of people haven't had the opportunity to watch us play yet, and with it being a good opponent, they can see just exactly who we are and what we are all about."

I'd take either Mariota or Bridgewater and be happy.

Honestly, there are about 7 quarterbacks in this year's draft that I'd be ecstatic with. This is the perfect year to need a QB. I'm just wondering which teams go QB with their first pick? We know the Jags, Bucs, and Browns will all be looking, but who else is there that's going to be picking in front of or around the Texans? Cardinals? Vikings? Chargers?

I think there might be more QBs this year than teams looking for QBs - which means teams that don't need a QB now may have a great opportunity to draft their QB of the future lower in the draft. Though the attractiveness of some of these guys like Mariota and Manziel is going to depend on whether the current read-option types (RG3, Wilson, Kaepernick) have sophomore slumps or improve on last year. The NFL is a reactionary league, so if they all suck this year, everyone is going to decide it was a fluke and de-value those guys in this year's draft.

Never understood the hype around this guy. But to each his own I guess. I just hope our Texans don't make the mistake of gambling on this guy.

I respect the Pac12, but get annoyed by their whining fans, so I was hoping to see a crappy Oregon team this weekend. I'm just a casual observer and gambler, but damn, Mariota looks legit.

Bridgewater, Mariota, and Tahj Boyd will all be very good QB's in my mind. Can't go wrong either way.

While seriously expecting the Texans to now be a 7-9 team or worse...These are my thoughts on some of these QB prospects:

    1. like Manziel for his attitude...we need a bad ass under center...and his personality would transcend the team. And as he matures, that competitive fire will keep driving him. His size is really his only drawback...he could get hurt playing against NFL athletes, that have the speed to neutralize most QBs.

    2. Like Bridgewater...bc he is a true throw back of pocket passers...terrific vision and has a wide understanding of coverages. He may really be the most NFL ready QB

    3. Marcus Mariota is the most intriguing...bc he has a canon for an arm, and lighting quick on the field. His size, arm strength and speed could be very enticing. But he could be a project in the NFL...

Personally, we need a real leader. Someone that has his own personality and doesnt adopt it from his head coach. Schaub, Yates and Keenum have all adopted Kubiak's mentality and personality. So the way Kubiak thinks, Schaub and his understudies deliver. Someone like Manziel may force Kubiak to be more riskier....bc we sure as heck know that Manziel isnt listening to conservative play calls from Kubiak.

I like Bridgewater the most, but Jacksonville is most likely taking him. Manziel might be in our range, but if you are going with a totally different coach and system, Marcus Mariota might be really a good choice...

The huge hype began with his performance against Florida in the Sugal Bowl.

If you want a leader, Mariota isn't your guy. He's very introverted and I that is my #1 concern about him in the NFL. He's trying to be more outgoing this season but it's not really his personality.

The way Clowney is playing this year he needs to kick it into overdrive to stay in the first round.

In my rambling...I shouldve mentioned that i dont think he is at all...I just think he would be an interesting prospect..sorry...

Bridgewater and Manziel may have that "It" factor...I just dont think that Manziel wont hold up well in the NFL. Everyone is fast, but if this kid gets hit...good night

Bridgewater pushing Clowney for the #1 overall isn't that surprising. I might have said otherwise prior to the season, but the top QB in any draft will have at shot if the first team drafting needs a QB. The fact that Bridgewater has looked great, and Clowney seems more "Mario Williams" than "Julius Peppers," only increases the odds.

I seen Clowney alot not impress at all. Bridgewater will be pretty good though. Only good thing about Clowney for Texans is he will take a spot ahead of the Texans.

Judging a pass rusher at the college level is like judging a QB. Actually being good on the field doesn't always matter... having a high motor doesn't always matter.

Watt in college - high motor, high impact playmaker that turned out better in the pros than in college.

Selvie in college - athletic, high speed, destructive pass rusher that tormented QB's, better on the college level.

Clowney just isn't trying. His attitude is poor but good coaches aren't scared off by that, good coaches believe they can turn a player around. Clowney is too talented to fall outside the top 5. If I had to pick between Manziel or Clowney on the Texans (assuming the two big-name QB's are gone)... I might have to go with Clowney, assuming he grades out as expected. The thought of a great defensive end locked into a rookie scale contract long-term, next to Watt for the next several years - that's exciting. Manziel is undersized and hasn't played without an elite offensive line protecting him.

And I don't blame Clowney for watching his back. He has nothing to gain playing for South Carolina. If he doesn't care about winning at that level so be it.

So that brings up a question. If he's entering free agency, will he play hard for your NFL team, or protect himself for his next contract? If the team isn't doing well, will he give full effort or protect himself? If he doesn't care about winning in college, will he in the NFL?

If he doesn't have a lot of excitement for the game or pride in his play, that should bring up red flags. You don't see Johnny Manziel - or basically any other NFL prospect - not playing hard or putting himself in harm's way to protect himself for next year.
