Ok I have another question. So my friend has one main box that is big and the rest of the TVs have littler boxes. Can I plug it into a little box? So I watch whatever is playing on the little box right? It would have no affect on the person watching on the main box right?

If the smaller boxes are independent of the main box, as in they view a separate channel and feed, then yes, it won't affect the main box.

Whatever is showing on the box connected to the Slingbox will show on your screen.

Just thought of one more question. Sorry! Ok so at first I will set it up at my friend's house so I can watch at my house. When the CSN deal eventually happens, will I be able to switch the slingbox to my house and watch my own channels?

Yes, just set it up again at your new place. After connecting the cables, the setup process is pretty easy. You create a login from slingbox.com, it'll detect the Slingbox on the network, auto-update, then you choose what cable provider you have and the cable box model to match the remote.

You can watch cable that the slingbox is physically connected to. If you wanted to use it with your cable.. you'll have to move the slingbox to your house. I use my slingbox this way to watch TV in a bedroom without cable hookups.

Ok sounds easy enough. So I'll go on the slingbox website and order the slingbox 500. Is that all I need and I'm good? My friend just has a regular TV (not one of the smart TVs) and it will still pull up the settings and stuff on that?

It doesn't matter. There's a reason why you're limited to one person using Slingbox at a time.

If using a friend's slingbox is fraud and theft, then so is going over to a friends house to watch a game. That's basically what you're saying.

I have no idea where you got the idea that prices would go up because of this... that makes no sense either. He isn't misusing anything.

According to the Sling Box web site, allowing a 3rd party to use your sling box account violates the TOS you agreed to.

You can question if it is fraud or theft all you want, but it does violate the TOS.

I'd like to see where it says that specifically.

    http://support.slingbox.com/get/KB-1000358.html

They have an article where you can give access to friends and family. What I'm talking about, which is giving someone else access to your Slingbox, is not a violation of anything, especially of anything legal. You can share your Slingbox, period. Whether you want to give them your admin pw (which apparently violates TOS) or you want to set up a guest account is up to you.

ItsMyFault, please don't argue with Swoly. It just baits his ignorance, more people end up quoting him, and the whole reason he's ignored goes to waste. :(

Here is where I read it and it seems that your KB article kind of contradicts what the software portion of their TOS states.

    http://www.slingbox.com/get/universal-eula.html

    Excerpts:

(with respect to the Sling Box software)

You may only use the Software in connection with your personal Slingbox, and you may not use the Software to access or attempt to access another party’s Slingbox, nor may you use the Software for any illegal activity.
You may not share your administrator password, user password, your Slingbox Finder ID, or your Sling Media registration ID with any third party.

Yeah that's basically only taking about the admin login. Guests can have their own login which means anyone you want to allow to use your Slingbox can do so.

All of this really doesn't matter if the OP himself is buying the Slingbox. If he owns the Slingbox, he's the owner. He can use the whatever software, admin login, etc. that Slingbox has.

I think you're reaching a bit. I suspect this has more to do with third party apps/programs/ect and CYA. Having a 'guest' account pretty much contradicts your point.

Besides, its up to the content provider to determine if its piracy. Dish Network has sling built into their product. Dish and DirecTv also have on the go streaming. As mentioned, its pretty much the same has having a friend over watching TV with you. We are splitting hairs over technicalities.

Is it just me or has Swoly made a rapid ascension to most annoying/unjustifiably pedantic poster in all of clutchfans?

I used to read and enjoy his posts not that long ago. I repped him probably more than a couple times. I don't know what happened, but now, yeah, pretty sure he's the only non 12er/13er on my list. His thing nowadays is to be needlessly argumentative and create an issue where one doesn't exist. I had an ex like that many years ago. Not a fun time.

^ I'm glad you left him. He wasn't good for you, man. :p
Nonsense. Using authentication like usernames and passwords "borrowing" someone's service is theft that can be proven as illicit. Visiting someone while they have a service open and using it, like watching a game, is not possible to measure, therefore not in the rules of any industry (borrowing a CD is cool, but copying it and distributing even if he is not making money is another example that's akin to what he is doing).

Yeah, don't argue with me anymore, because I know NOTHING about this.
