    Boy, that's an understatement.

    Defense: #1 in yards/game; #28 in points/game
    Offense: #7 in yards/game; #26 in points/game

And the reason is turnover margin and penalties.

We have the 2nd most giveaways and 3rd fewest takeaways.

Texans have the 2nd most penalties and the most penalty yards in the league.

The team just shoots itself in the foot over and over again. Even if the offense is working, we kill drives with penalties or we turn the ball over. The defense has to defend a short field. Even if they play well then we give the other team first downs with penalties. We cant' take the ball away and we can't stop anybody inside our own 20.

Not just penalties and turnovers. Even without those, we don't consistently finish in the red zone. We walk away with too many FGs and not enough TDs. Playcalling and/or execution once we're in scoring range is and has been a serious issue for this team.

Sure, the Texans have a deep and rich history of highly successful 2nd round picks. Oh, wait . . .

    Kubiak radio show:

Not going very good today. Struggled once again in a lot of the same situations in all phases. Heck of a football team we have to go play (in KC).

Update on Schaub? Rolled up pretty good. It's everything. It's on the same side he had the surgery a few years ago but we got lucky. Long process throughout the week. End of the week before we know anything.

Chances of him playing? I have no idea.

Danieal Manning? He has a significant knee injury. It's being evaluated on how long it will take. He's been a great player for us; a leader. We'll hold our breath and hope for the best.

I gotta get both QBs ready to play. I'll work both, get them ready to play. We won't know until the end of the week and go from there. We have 3 QBs. Gotta work through this week and figure out where we're at.

Harris at safety? Pleasant can play too. He's a young player. Brandon has played some safety for us, especially in preseason and in some games. We have to see where we're at. Shiloh has played a lot of football.

A.J. Bouye (injury) - he affects us from a ST standpoint. Danieal, we were trying to get him going. We came out of the game disappointed in how we played but also beat up.

Talk about your message to the guys? I was most disappointed in, there was a lot of finger pointing for a few weeks. We sprung leaks in a lot of places yesterday. That's been my focus for the past month. There are a lot of reasons you win and lose. It's not one thing.

Reaction to the fans (re: Schaub)? I have no reaction to that.

QB situation with Keenum/Yates - how difficult to get both ready? We have to do it every week. Starter takes majority of the reps. I gotta get them both ready to compete. I've done it many times. We'll work through it. They'll get a bunch (of reps) this week.

Sense of this team, it needs a spark, something positive to jump start it? I definitely feel that way. It's like uh oh, here we go again with these same mistakes. We have to work our way out of it.

We have run the ball pretty well. Arian has played huge the last few weeks. Playing as good as he's ever played for me. Up front, we're giving him room to run. We were committed yesterday to running the ball.

    ...

You again out-gain the opponent. Statistically, no way you get beat the way we got beat. We've been playing well defensively. We can play better. We had problems in all three phases.

TJ Yates? Gotta play a lot better and he'd be the first to tell you that. Probably pressing a little bit but TJ is capable of playing better.

DeAndre Hopkins? He's done some good things. Needs to get more consistent. He's young. We're asking him to do a great deal but he needs to respond. We're turning the ball over in different phases.

Matt Schaub(before the injury)? He was playing better. Did some good stuff. Always things you can do better. A couple more plays we can make but he was protecting the ball and getting the ball to the right people but we need more out of the ball movement. Gotta be more consistent and efficient in the red zone.

Go for it on 4th and goal at the 2? No, I think I take the FG there every time.

Without OD, how did that affect things you wanted to do? Ryan came in, he did a good job. It's a loss. Owen is a productive player in our offense. It is a loss. Something you have to adjust to. He's not coming back anytime soon. We have to keep moving the football.

3 O-linemen? Brooks came back and held up well. Duane continues his comeback. Wade, we continue to rest him in situations but has responded well.

Newton still starting RT? Yes. He improved yesterday. He can always do better like everyone else. Derek is a young player that has a lot of promise that needs to continue to work.

Assessment of TJ? He gotta protect the ball and play better. Disappointment for our team and TJ is a part of our team.

Arrowhead? This will be as difficult a place you'll play in the league. They're a dang good football team. They're playing clean football and great defense.

This team is amazing at getting their hands on the ball. We're minus-12 as a team and they're plus-12.

Finger pointing, how hard is it to keep that from filtering the rest of the team? Not hard at all. The locker room knows whats going on on the field. Film doesn't lie. They know who is and isn't playing well. They know exactly what's going on.

How much, if at all, do you consider lineup changes? Starting jobs on the line? All of our jobs are on the line. NFL rosters aren't big. You better get your people doing their job and be consistent. We have to stay committed to the calls.

LeStar Jean active yesterday? Concerned about Andre and Key going into the game so I suited him up.

Andre's shin impacting him during games? I thought he played well yesterday. I was concerned Friday if we would get there. He moved around pretty good. Another week with no setbacks should help him improve.

Offense taking what the D gives? You attack coverage. Yesterday, St. Louis is a big blitz team. We saw 2 all day. They came in here and played us different. You gotta adjust and move the football accordingly.

10 games left. We lost 4 games. Margin for error gets tougher but I'm hanging on to the positive fact we've played great defense, we've moved the ball. We have to do the efficient things better. You stay positive but have to stay honest too. It was a tough meeting today. The responsibility starts with me. It's not all okay. We have to go fix it.

Why not name names (at press conferences)? I don't know. I operate the way I operate. I'm honest with you, with people. That's the way I live my life. My responsibility is to get this team play better. What can I do (better)? My players are playing hard.

How is it (around town) in a time of crisis like this? I don't get a lot of time to go around the city. I believe in our city and our fans. We've worked hard to turn this around and going in a positive direction. That has taken place. We're going through a difficult time but willing to fight the fight. This guy right here, I'm gonna battle my tail off and I expect the same (from the players) and I know they will.

I know the human side of it. They're disappointed. They're just like myself and the coaches. We talk. The one thing I'm impressed with, we got issues, players are hurt but they stay committed. We practiced well last week. I thought we were prepared going into the game. I talked to captains today after practice about a couple of things. We'll come in Wednesday and get back to work.

Alex Smith? A fine player. If you see some guys who come out and go through 4 coordinators, it's a difficult road. He's with a great group of coaches. Alex is a fine player. He did it in SF. He's flourishing in KC.

We're fortunate(with Schaub injury) and have to start working on the road back.

JJ Watt? Ball is going away from him but he still finds a way to be a factor. Like the whole team, yesterday was not good enough in every area. Every player would tell you they need to be better.

End of week decision on Schaub preparing both Keenum/Yates. Does that mean an open competition at #2 QB? Our starting QB is out and we're concerned about his health and we have 2 young players and I have to get them ready to play. I'll do what I think is best when I have an answer on Matt later in the week.

    Schaub radio show:

How you doing tonight? Wish I was doing better. We got things we need to get better at and work on.

Leg injury? Lower leg, ankle, foot -- got rolled up pretty good. Having rounds of treatment today. Trying to do everything to get to the end of the week and ready to go.

What did you think happened when it occurred? Watching it on film, it could have been worse. The popping I heard, it must have come out and then back in to place. It could have been worse.

What do the guys have to get better at? They're battlin' and fightin' tooth and nail. Our line has been fightin' tooth and nail and battlin' week in and week out.

How did you evaluate your play? This business, when you don't get things done, you always look to yourself to see what you can do better. You're looking at ways you can be better to help the guys around you.

Feel better yesterday than previous games? Definitely did.

Reaction to the fans reaction when you got hurt? Me personally, I wasn't aware. I was focused on my job, my leg/ankle and trying to shake that off. I was unaware of a lot of that going on. I was made aware after the fact. I would hate to think people would act that way. There is no place for that.

I'm gonna do everything I can to be ready to go.

I never really listened or paid attention to Schaub speaking off the field. I didn't realize he'd adopted Kubiak's battlefightin' vocabulary.

Oh yeah, Schaub hobbling out to face the Chiefs ferocious pass rush. That should go well.

Yeah, he's very much like a son taking on his father's mannerisms. It's cute in a "makes you nauseous to listen to" kind of way.

I hate it when people bring up the turnover stat. Its correlation not causation. A team that is behind is forced to throw more and make riskier passes to try to get back in the game. This obviously leads to more turnovers. This does not mean that the turnovers caused the loss. Losing caused the turnovers. I am sure turnovers hurt, but not nearly as much as people make out.

When Richard Sherman picked off Schaub we were winning the game. Turnovers cause losses.

    HUH????

didn't the texans lose to the seahawks because of the pick 6?

don't you acknowledge the impact on the team's psyche of a pick 6? or a string of those?

Reading those quotes just proved how pathetic Kubiak is, unbelievable, some BS every week, "I have got to do more, I need to do a better job, it's all on me", how the **** this guy still have his job is beyond me.

some of you mind find this idiotic or stupid, but as long as Bob Mccnair own this team I don't see a chance this team winning a championship.

MY first statement was not a matter of opinion. Comparing turnovers to wins is correlation and does not prove causation. That is fact. And I would argue many things went into the loss you mention besides just the pick 6.
