The leading roles should have been Jennifer Aniston and Nic Cage, IMO.

I read somewhere that Angelina Jolie was the original choice for the female lead. I could see Nic Cage in Clooney's role, as well.

Nic Cage would have lost his **** in space. Bad casting for the role but would have been hilarious.

    Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

On the for real, this movie was amazing. A little forced with the emotional revelations but a just incredible none the less.

I really loved that scene where the dead Clooney came into the escape pod after Bullock had given up. Just a well done and poignant scene.

Finally saw it over the weekend. Caught it in 3D but not IMAX 3D. Unbelievably cinematic movie. The sound design is absolutely worthy of an Oscar. The way Cuaron ramped up intensity by utilizing only the sounds coming from inside the suit while everything else around them is going bonkers was incredibly effective.

Generally, I can't stand Sandra Bullock, but I could not help but root for her in this film. This is absolutely a recommendation for any person that likes sci-fi, action, intense thrillers, good sound design or quality visual effects. Between this and Children of Men, Alfonso Cuaron is quickly jumping up my list of directors from whom I will see anything, even if it looks silly or crappy. I just hope the guy increases his output a little. He takes too long between movies.

That part of the movie really elevated the movie to greatness. From then on, I knew I was in for something special.

Your opinion is a joke. It's a very good movie (Captain Phillips).

Just don't equate the movie with what it leaves out: Phillips the stubborn captain who put his ship in harm's way.

This might have been something discussed already earlier in the thread, but I didn't go back and read the whole thing. I'll spoiler the question for those that still haven't seen it:

Why was it that George Clooney was pulling on Sandra Bullock when she was caught up in the ropes at the Russian spacestation? He said he needed to unhook because he was pulling her too hard, but I couldn't figure out a reason why his momentum would be continually pulling at her. I mean, if he came to a stop when she initially grabbed on to him, shouldn't it have been easy to drag him in out where there is no gravity? That part confused me a bit.

4/5 stars, not perfect but a damn good movie. story was not weak and even in 2d would be enjoyable. that said, do try and watch in 3d if possible.

That confused me as well. When he unhooked he took off pretty quick as well.

Yeah, that definitely didn't make sense. If anything, because she was pulling him back towards her, he should have either been completely stopped, or even flown towards her after she got caught up in the ropes and the rope went tight.
