McCain's a shill for Wall Street? Didn't he lose to Obama by a landslide in terms of Wall Street donations back in 2008?

And I do believe you're wrong to lump Rand Paul in with Ted Cruz when it comes to the shutdown. I remember seeing Paul on TV before the shutdown saying that he was against shutting down the government to try and defund/delay Obamacare.

Wall Street already owns the GOP. Hell, Wall Street IS the GOP, so money is poured into the Democratic party to make sure they win no matter who is in control of government.

Obama a socialist? Hahahahaha, only a Fox viewer is dumb enough to believe that.

I used to work on Wall Street. There were a hell of a lot of Democrats.

I have no idea what your second comment is referring to. Are you under the impression that I called Obama a socialist, or was it just time for a non sequitur attack on Fox viewers (a group to which I do not belong)?

Rand Paul takes every position possible. He was one of 15 Senators to sign a letter supporting a government shutdown unless Obamacare was defunded:

Not referring to you, but your post reminded me of how utterly convinced right wingers are that Obama is a Socialist. To steal a great line, worst Socialist ever.

And there are a hell of a lot of Democrats everywhere. The future is ours. ;)

He's very good at basically publicly taking every position so he can claim he's on the winning side of whatever. It's oddly one of his strengths - the crazies love him and he's acceptable the moderates because he makes himself sound normal.

I've always liked McCain. I feel sorry for him that the party turned on him for losing his presidential bid. And now he's got crazies making his last term a trial.

I don't feel sorry for him - he is partly to blame for unleashing the Tea Party on a national stage by nominating the half-term governor of Alaska for VP.

I agree. I used to have sympathy for him but he long sold out to get his presidential bid and to try to fire up conservative support.

Wall Street (and K Street) own both parties. You don't see any anti-corporate populism in the democratic platform do you. If political parties were really free to put forth ideas that represent and benefit the people you would. It could be a massive electoral demographic but it's counter purposed to organizing money and paying for PR.

Of course both party do it, but at least the Democrats think of the little people sometimes unlike most of the GOPs.

“Republicans have to understand we have lost this battle, as I predicted weeks ago, that we would not be able to win because we were demanding something that was not achievable.”

Enough to give the appearance of a difference and no more. Again there is no motive to represent the people when elections and local party politics are about raising campaign funds. It always easy to brand populist candidates when you own the press, Socialist! Class Warfare! when socialism , the organizing government for the greater good kind, not the government owning the means of production kind (see it's not even separate definitions) is actually advancing civilization and is a more 'christian' way.

Okay, you don't like him. Got it.

What about his message in this case? Seems like he was, indeed, correct in his predictions several weeks ago.

I heard McCain speak a few weeks ago. It wasn't on the crisis (which hadn't happened yet) but he spoke of his pro-Syria intervention stance, his relationship with Obama and his experience in Vietnam. This guy is honest-to-god one of the most convincing people out there and I can see why he was a presidential candidate. I do not agree with his policies but he sticks to his guns and I can respect that.

The fact that he's been to Syria and been to the refugee camps and has experienced the front lines of Vietnam is pretty damn hard to argue against. His biography is quite compelling as well.

"I campaigned in 2012 all over this country for months: 'Repeal and replace Obamacare.' That was not the mandate of the voters. If they wanted to repeal Obamacare, the 2012 election would have been probably significantly different,"

    Senator John McCain (R-Arizona)
