This. So bad they've made me go back to espn.com

Pulled up the boxscore for the 1st rockets preseason game a few days ago and there were decimals in the columns, i.e. 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and there were no team totals at the bottom of the columns. How does this make it through development and get rolled out without someone noticing? They got the decimals removed finally but still no totals. Glanced through some of the comments and they're almost universal in their hatred of the new layout.

It's "ledes," "Cavs," "tackle," and "measurables" is not a word. Plus we're not in the habit of using the number sign like that -- hashtags haven't swayed protocol that much, I'm hoping that "#" isn't swaying your tone and touch too much. Especially when you contradict your own style with "a number 1 overall pick" later in the graf. "Graf" being the technical term for what you cobbled together.

What you wrote is a 134-word lede. If you need me to elucidate from there, you and anyone else (without handles, with your actual names) know where to find me.

This site, going back to the Clinton administration, is still rife with those that think columnists write their own headlines.

Skype was founded in Denmark/Sweden. I guess that is foreign. At least for you, who doesn't seem to have the first clue of anything outside of Arlington, TX.

Some of your comments I understand, using # instead of number is not proper protocol and my use of Caves, obviously is a gaff and what editors are there for to catch obvious mistakes. I have written for a small blog before and was told that "#" is non-standard and probably the reason for my contradiction later on in the "lede."

Also, I will say that, what I wrote, was obviously easier to do than what you did, because you provided ALL the structure, while all I did was transform it in a more pleasing way.

However. I still can't believe that you, being a professional writer, are pleased with this sentence construction: The top selection in last June’s NBA draft was a surprise choice to just about every prognosticator, with the Cavs realizing that the 2013 pool was atypically weak, while shooting for what seemed like a sound, safe choice in the talented forward.

    It's bad.

I would like you to "elucidate" one thing: why the comma before "with your actual names" is put in there. English 101 would frown on such a obvious construction gaff as I believe (and I'm just guessing here) that the phrase is required to understand the noun "handles". Maybe?

On second thought, let me take a stab at it. The reason you broke up that NOUN PHRASE is because your eternal editor told you too. Most aware writers realize that long, inexact strings of words are a no-no. So you tried to HIDE the noun phrase with a comma. bwhwhawha Good move! Poor writing, but a good move nonetheless.
