I think Howard was wanting to try out some new moves that the master Hakeem was teaching him. If he can start consistently making that shot of the glass then he will be unstoppable

I actually think Hibbert is the best Center in the NBA,He is a valuable scoring big, uses his enormous size and passion for defending and rebounding to impact games hugely, which we saw in the playoffs last season.I am really impressed.

Also curious how Marc Gasol will develop.

Dwight held Hibbert to 11 points and only 2 rebounds, so he did pretty well....Dwight didn't have a monster game, but he neutralized the other center so it's hard to complain. With Dwight and Asik, the Rockets won't get beat by any big man this year.

    ok, lets trade him
    whats the point?

    Howard is a beast.
He open a lot of open shots and spaces for the others, and make all them look better.

IMO, Dwight's post moves are predictable. This is why Hibbert has blocked Howards shots a ton during the past two games. Dwight's moves has been scouted, and played on opposing teams film sessions which is why guys know his tendencies, his strengths and his weaknesses.

It also helps that Hibbert is 4 inches taller than Howard. Some moves aren't going to work against a much taller opponent.

Guys like Hibbert are why Dwight wants a big time 7-foot backup behind him. Dwight knows he struggles against length-strength combo. With Asik out there..Dwight can switch to the lesser defender and dominate.

Like others have pointed out, Dwight has always struggled against true dominant physical 7 footers like Hibbert... but who doesn't?

Dwight's used to physically dominating 95% of bigs in the league, and has trouble getting frustrated trying to overpower the 1 or 2 guys in the league that can simply overpower him. We saw it firsthand with Yao a few years ago.

I'm not worried about it at all though. How many bigs in the league right now can truly overpower Dwight? Hibbert is pretty close, Bynum when healthy, and that's about it.

In a 7 game series though, I believe Dwight's a smart enough player to adjust his game in that series, and playing under McHale & Hakeem will help him mentally prepare for those match ups in practice better than someone like D'Antoni who is just going to keep the ball out of his hands instead of working with him.

    Wed- 16th - Orlando - Vucevic
    21st - Dallas - Dalembert
    24th - SA - Splitter
    25th- Memphis - M. Gasol
    30th- Charlotte - Biyombo

Dwight will look like Dwight again the next two weeks with these matchups. The other game to watch will be to see how he reacts in the Memphis game going against Gasol.

Hopefully true if it works out, but having a backup like Asik will be great to have even if just as a backup. Howard can matchup with someone like Hibbert in stretches, but it really seems like it takes alot out of him physically.

Having Asik to be able to come in and wear down Hibbert for a few minutes here and there will be great. That way down the stretch of a big game, Howard can push a little bit harder in final minutes, and probably be much more fresh than Hibbert since Hibbert will be relied on for more minutes without a true dominant backup himself. Getting Asik back will make Dwight better either way.

Defensively, no one, not even Hibbert, can overpower Dwight. Offensively, because he is really only 6'9", Dwight can be overpowered by strong 7 footers with defensive skills. Basically...Dwight can be overpowered by Hibbert offensively. He's not going to be able to be efficient at traditional post-play with Hibbert. He's gotta beat Hibbert with quicks. Quick slashes to the hoop on the pick-and-roll. We'll see that once they start playing for real. Quick alley-oops. Quick movement when he catches the ball, going straight up or taking a quick dribble and going into his move. And using his quicks to beat Hibbert to the offensive glass. IF Dwight uses his quicks on Hibbert, he'll send him to the bench in foul trouble. And then the door is open..

I agree. I think that's why its great that Dwight is going to be coached this year by McHale & Hakeem so now he'll have people in his ear being able to prepare him for games like this more often. Another past coach might just gameplan around Dwight on the offensive end, and play more perimeter oriented.

It'll be interesting to see how Dwight plays against Memphis in a couple weeks. I think he still has the edge physically against Gasol, but he has the size to at least defend against him in the post. Should be an interesting matchup.
