My trusty dvd player of 10 years stopped working. Thinking about up grading to blue-ray with wifi so I can watch Netflix on tv. My concern is my tv is older still with a picture tube. It has two sets of input red, white, and yellow and color stream input blue and red. I'm not concerned about the picture quality with the old tv. Its more about adding the wifi. Plus with property tax and Christmas a new tv is out of the question for now. My question is should my tv be compatible with the blue-ray?
It could theoretically function, so long as the player can connect to the component input (that's the 5-colored connecters, assuming that is what you meant in your post... red, green, blue, red, white). My assumption though is that a lot of blu-ray players these days may only connect via HDMI, so then you'd need an HDMI converter of some kind to get it to connect, assuming such a thing even exists.
Will probably work, as long as you get a player that has COMPONENT output. "Colorstream" is just the Toshiba name for component. The wifi shouldn't make any difference.
Just get a new tv or don't bother. You could easily get a chromecast plus a new HDTV and watch Netflix that way...or bluray players are pretty cheap now, even with Netflix. The bottom line though, is get a tv first
don't buy a blu-ray/wifi player. In theory it's supposed to work, but those players don't have a lot of processing power so switching over to netflix, searching and typing and everything takes a long time. You're better off with just a blu ray player and then chromecast or google tv or something
Agreed...just get a PS3...the only upgradeable Blu Ray player on the market. I just upgraded mine to 3D when I got a new TV.
arent blu-rays days numbered.. DD will eventually take over, netflix and other streamers will only get better.. buying a physical disc seems like a dated concept.. i own a 360 and watch all the hd movies my heart desires.. (360 has a dvd drive)
well mkv is a container, so you can put all the subtitles nad what not in there. 360 doesnt handle mkv too well. i need mp4 so i use mkv extract and yamb to create mp4..

This is true. Streaming video is sweet and easy...I watch all my TV on demand these days. However, when it comes to recreating the cinema experience in your home, online video streams do not compare to blu ray quality. Maybe most people don't notice. I do. It pisses me off. Plus Blu Ray is awesome for parents. Kids cant scratch em. Digital copy for the ipad for flights, DVD copy for the car player, and Blu Ray for home.
body slam, as long as your TV has the component (red, blue, green) input, the Blu-ray player will work, because most if not all players have that type of output if not HDMI alone. With that said, you might want to post what the model of the TV is. Maybe we can figure out how the blu-ray movies will look. LOOK is different than "will it work?" issues. In your case, it will more than likely WORK but it probably won't "look" as good. You will probably benefit from a lower-end Blu-ray player that is less than $100. What brand/model is your TV?
