He's going to realize it later on that he had it good here in Houston. The Rockets organization went above and beyond by allowing him to drive to games, paying for his transportation and the driver, and paying for a doctor to continue his treatment, but he wanted more and more and more. I don't see any other organization agreeing to a bunch of his demands.

The Rockets wanted things to work out b/c they saw potential in him. He will regret not trying harder to work things out, but by then it will be too late. Everyone can pretty much see that his NBA days will soon come to an end.

For what it's worth, hinkie says it was based on advice from the team doctor

"It really was just based on our team doctor giving me and [general manager] Sam [Hinkie] and the club advice that it may be best for him to remain at home," Sixers coach Brett Brown said of White's absence. "You know we are with him. We will support and help him."

Weird it wasn't announced by the team first though

Also. Fwiw. Kwame brown didn't make the trip either. And his presence was promoted in Spain

Apparently, the whole room was against drafting Royce except for McHale.

I understood that to mean "all the other NBA teams," since I don't think Morey would have drafted him otherwise.

Seriously? Why do people keep falling for that BS from the Grantland documentary of Royce White on draft night?! Royce's agent was getting PLAYED by several teams. Well, at least by Houston and Dallas.

If Morey, Rosas and Karnisovas were all against Royce, there's no way in hell that the Rockets would have drafted him.

My understanding of how draft night played out (based on pretty solid information) is that the Rockets debated internally between Royce White and Tyler Zeller at #16. It was the COACHES who wanted Zeller (although that may have been the staff as a whole and not necessarily McHale himself) but that the FRONT OFFICE determined that White had the higher upside. On a team with zero real stars, they had to gamble on upside.

What complicated matters further was that the Rockets had good intel that the Mavericks were going to take White if he fell to #17 (something that Mark Cuban all but admitted in an interview later last season), so the Rockets did not have the luxury of taking Zeller at #16 and White at #18. So, they took White at #16 and then actually tried to work a deal to move up from #18 to #17 to also take Zeller. Unfortunately, the Mavs got what they viewed as a better deal from Cleveland (3 picks in the late first/early second round), who proceeded to take Zeller off the board. The Rockets then took the best available remaining player on their board (Terrence Jones) despite already having a ton of power forwards.

Bottom line: The theory that Kevin McHale was the only person in the Rockets' war room who wanted to take Royce White is utter bunk.

He wasn't in bad shape. That will probably be the only time we see him play.

My bad Bima. Wasn't trying to put McHale down. Just wanted to share an interesting it's bit from that doc. I know it's year old, at least, but I'd never seen it.
