Lin's story is awesome. There's no denying that. But there's this school of thought that Lin's almost fairytale rise to NBA greatness will somehow be demeaned if an undrafted rookie had brought even the slightest doubt to Lin's status as the number one point guard on this roster- Completely missing the irony of the fact that Lin himself was an undrafted rookie who was overlooked and maybe, MAYBE Beverley deserves the same love.

We live in an era where the best player in the world right now doesn't mind passing first (And no matter how hardcore a Lin guy you are, can we agree that Lebron is leagues ahead of any Imaginary ceiling you have in your head for Lin?) But let's sack Mchale, reduce Harden's usage and bury a damn fine player in Beverley just so Lin's career graph can be more easily adapted into a Hallmark movie.

For the record- I am a Lin fan. I love his playing style, his work ethic, his humility, how he gels with the others personally, even his Youtube videos! I think he'll prove doubters wrong and become better then even Gogi. But that people can watch that Pacers game and not be excited by the possibilities it threw up and instead focus on something that means nothing. It infuriates me.

The fact that there's some doubt as to who should start and finish when Lin is playing well (And he is. I love what I've seen so far.) is a GOOD THING. That is... yknow... if you're a ROCKETS fan. If not, WTF are you doing on these forums?

Lin is a better player than Beverley, both Howard and Harden will perform better when Lin is in the game. The Rockets won't always be playing teams that are playing like crap the way the Pacers were, it's important for the team to play at maximum capacity not holding something back for later.

Beverely was drafted by the Lakers bruh, he also took Toney Douglas' rotation spot the first game he got here. So yeah, even tho Bev's a good player and an underdog too,he never had to fight as hard for his spot in the NBA as Lin did.

Dam!!! What's wrong with you??! No matter what type of fan they are, they are still fans. Calling any fan associated with the Rockets trash is unacceptable.

this is true. I've said it before. How far the Rockets will not heavily depend on who starts at point. THey'll go as far as Dwight and Harden take them.

If the Rockets fall short, who starts at point is not going to be a big reason why. It may be somewhere towards the bottom of the list, but it won't be anywhere near the top 3 reasons why this team may falter.

He said it because he was asked a loaded question.

Don't be mad. Stoking emotions is what reporters want.

If Lin coming off the bench means that he can play as he did in New York or against the Spurs as a Rocket, then that would make the Rockets extremely competitive.

The only problem is how many minutes he'd get while doing that. If it's only about 10 or so, then it'd be a waste.

Not true. LoF are only fans of Lin, not the Rockets. Most LoF's I have met are actually trash.

Lin had a great Summer League performance a month after he went undrafted and has been in the NBA pretty much ever since.

Beverley had to go to the Ukrainian League, make it to their All-Star Game, and even win the dunk contest before he got noticed enough to be drafted by the Lakers. They didn't sign him on, so he spent a year with Olympiacos in order to get his shot with the Heat in Summer League. He was their last roster cut before the start of the season, so he ended up in Russia and had to win the Eurocup MVP before he got his first shot at a regular season NBA game.

Every one is using the term "6th man"... But there is no indication that McHale would actually use Lin in that capacity if he came off the bench. McHale already benched Lin for quarters at a time and often the entire 4th quarter... Why would he be finishing games once he becomes the backup. Lets face the facts. We'll look back on the 3 years of Lin's contract as a waste of everyone's time.

Yes yes, Beverley was overlooked and ignored and has turned out to be a pretty good player and excellent fit. Boring.

Lin, on the other hand, was overlooked and ignored and has turned out to be a pretty good player, though not necessarily a good fit. Good story, good guy. How can you not want him to succeed? You Lin haters are ridiculous.

All because of a mistake he made in the past. Definitely made his journey tougher to the NBA not being able to showcase his talent in college. I'm glad he learned from his mistakes and was able to achieve his dream.

So the only difference between "Boring" and "Good Story" is if you're "not necessarily a good fit"?

Are they associated with the Rockets, though? :p

    (I agree... just being snarky.)

That was the best I could do. If I think real hard maybe I'll come up with a better excuse, ah, reason. The important point here is that it gave me an excuse to call someone a Lin hater, which I have never yet had an opportunity to do. Sure, it was in jest, but it was satisfying. I feel I have achieved a right of passage.
