No you said that the offense looked like hero ball without lin in the 1st and that is a plane fabrication by you. We had guys running the lanes and playing good team ball.
Many rockets fans do not understand "linsanity". Linsanity isn't about Jeremy's personal score. It's about how he can all his teammates involved. He can make himself score as well as getting his teammate score. This is mainly because Lin is a share first passer. If you are his teammate, you better be prepare that he will pass the ball to you at "any moment". If you are not focus on what he's doing, you will miss an easy opportunity to shine.
After thinking about this, I now think opportunistically using Lin and Bev to start depending on the matchup the Rockets face, may work. It’s not ideal in terms of consistency, but maybe this team is good enough to overcome that. I still believe (at this point, until I see more of Bev with starters) that in most cases Lin will be a better choice to start. But depending on the bench need and if Bev develops chemistry with starting unit, I can see them using Jeremy as 6th man. At least until they figure out another solution to bench problems. Looking forward to having Aski/Garcia/and also Smith back.
Why would you expect any coach to state anything to the public? What was Lin doing in the last game? A backup PG or a 6th man? You won't see more Harden ISO than last year simply because now you have a POST presence to take the pressure off Harden and the rest of the team to create for themselves. It's a luxury to have the option to take a starter out and use him as a 6th man. That is a sign of a great team, where you have enough talent on the team that you can afford to do this. This... also mean we need a 3rd PG playing somewhat typical backup mins. Guess what, we have Brook. If he is playing anywhere close to what he used to do for Houston, there is another good reason to move your former backup PG to starter, your starter PG to 6th man and your 3rd PG to backup. Playing Lin as a 6th man make so much sense for the team... of course there are things that need to be confirm (Brook able to take on a backup role, starter still excel w/o Lin in there to start, etcs). ... the perception that Lin going to be bench is a degrading to him is just that, a perception. The reality is the coaching staff and the team is trying to find the best way forward and I'm thinking they are all buying into that. And the perfect time to test this is IN THE PRESEASON.
WRONG. Linsanity is about him elevating the play of his teammates AS well as himself. You think there would be Linsanity if he was only averaging 12 pts? Linsanity happened because he was putting up all time high numbers and winning every game. I'm tired of (some) LOFs saying Linsanity was only about Lin getting teammates involved when clearly it wasn't just that.
I don't think you understood my post & took into consideration it was a PRESEASON. The decked unit played almost the whole 2 & 4th quarter don't expect that to happen during the regular season or playoffs. I do feel like Lin should always be on the court whenever harden is not & also get at least 30mins. Whether it's 6 man or mins staggered with Bev. & Harden. Mchale could easily let the starters play a whole 4th quarter or finish the game and sit Lin how he did plenty of times last year. FACTS, a 6th man is plays 30mins and is always on the floor to finish the game, time will tell if this is what MCHALE does with Lin if he's not in the starting lineup.
Nice one, sounds like the Bev/Armstrong comparison. Lin is a leader too, of course, in a very different way. (maybe post it in Cxbby's thread?) This I cannot completely agree. Just because the starters are high caliber doesn't mean they can play well together. Look at those super Lakers teams that blew up. Lin would be a very good facilitator for the starters, especially for Dwight. Again, Dwight is very good but he isn't one you could just throw him the ball and have the whole team feed off him, like Shaq, Dream, TD. But of course, with McHale and Dream tutoring him it's not out of the question.
There is only one problem where the bench is concerned. And it is a fairly hard one to fix. The bench has no offensive creator. None at all. Beverley isn't a playmaker. Brooks isn't a playmaker. Hell, everyone on the bench is almost one-dimensional or limited in nature. Very good for their specific roles, yes, but when that role calls for creating offense, there are only TWO names in the ENTIRE TEAM that can do it. Their names are James Harden and Jeremy Lin. That's why I think that Jeremy becoming the "sixth man" is absolutely not a knock on him at all. It is because the team has almost no freaking choice. The offense, without either one of the above two names in it, is hideous to watch. Not an offense you want to have in the playoffs or fielded against the league's best teams. And this is also the reason why Jeremy Lin is essentially the 4th most important player on the Rockets after Harden, Howard and Asik. If ever Harden goes down with an injury, does anyone want Beverley or Brooks to be the ones orchestrating the offense? Yup, thought so. Jeremy Lin is in essence, the BEST point guard on the Rockets AND the PRIMARY BACKUP to Harden. Not backup as in the shooting guard position. Backup as in offensive orchestrator. (Some would argue that he should be the primary offensive orchestrator in all circumstances, but lets not get there today :grin So seriously, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Lin becoming the "sixth man". He will still be one of the top 4 most important Rockets anyway.
Jeremy Lin needs to come off the bench. He needs to be THE guy in order to be most effective. Linsanity happened when Melo and Amare were out, and he was THE guy. As a starter he has to defer to Harden (who has a lot of the same skills as Lin to a much greater extent), and is reduced to a spot up, off the ball shooter (which he is clearly not). As 6th man, Lin can have the ball in his hands, driving to the rack for the score, or creating for others. Also, Beverly's skill set fits better with the starters. He doesn't have to have the ball in his hands to be effective, he's a better 3 point shooter, and better defender. Harden can do all the driving and creating.
That will depends on Lin's plays and his consistency. Lin is bound to be more consistent as a 6th man that dominate the ball than as a starter that camp at the 3 pt line (yea, i know he does more than that, but i think you get the picture).
i am not sure about 3pts argument yet. It was last season. May not be this season. Need more sample size.
I think being the 6th man is the right decision for J Lin. Look how great he looks when he's the #1 option. There's no way he can do that when he's playing behind DH/JH/CP
Based on this logic Jermaine Taylor should be our starting SG. Did you see his college numbers? College in NOT the NBA.
Uh, you completely missed his point. He was implying that Jeremy can't score 30 points if he has to share the ball with Harden, Dwight, and Parsons, but he could score 30+ when he's the first option. Just look at last season against the Spurs when Lin put up 30 points when Harden was out. You actually further cemented his point by bringing up Jermaine Taylor. Jermaine would be better as a 6th man than playing with our starters (if he was on the team).
