Damn, I thought g1184 was the one to get it done; the prototype g1180's showed a lot of promise after the utter failure of the g1170 series.

Back to the drawing board I guess. :(

That is why the next batch of AI's (the g1190 series, most likely) will have to be better-engineered. One day we will triumph like Deep Blue.

It will be a sweet dish of LOLRUS served that day. So very sweet and blubbery and tender.

I heard that all of our workers were furloughed. We will just have to combine our food stamps, unemployment checks, and SS to get the money we need.

It is clear. The same thing as usual-- more tax breaks for the upper 1%, especially the .1%. Less wages (more profits for the)and less social security for everyone else.

What isn't clear is when they occasionally accidentally will admit it to larger audiences.

Approval polls don't matter when A. You don't have to get re-elected or B. You are a congressman in a wingnut district.

    They,bofum, don't care.

The build-up of tension and the sweet release of a settlement rumor satisfies for both because they're really only one side, money. Delay every tax and entitlement you can, but don't make the market go down, done for now.
    Good work everybody!

Problem is that "Generic Democrat" is polling ahead of many GOP Rep incumbents. Even with gerrymandering, if an election were held today then the Dems would take back the house.

GOP reps are caught between losing a primary if concede defeat on the shutdown and losing the general election if they don't.

Their only hope is that the election is still a little over a year away and that voters have short memories.

Unfortunately elections aren't held today. They'll be over a year from now and it'll take a wave election for the Democrats to take the house back. (which is unlikely)

Its too bad that our constitution doesn't have a provision for snap elections like parliamentary systems do. In most countries, if a government can't agree on a budget, you end up with snap elections. It seems like we need something like that as well.

33 republican seats are up for grabs in 2014. I think it would be VERY difficult (impossible) to grab 17 of those, no matter what the GOP does.

Honestly, I find the polls worthless. They don't mean anything, especially with the gerrymandering. They only place those polls really matter are in national elections for President and perhaps some in the Senate but these House Tea Party guys are going to be perfectly safe. The bigger problem is the funding mechanism for this crazy ****. That a handful of billionaires can create a fictional "grass roots movement" and control the agenda in national politics is sickening and it's very dangerous for the future of this country. What we're truly moving towards is an actual Corporate Congress where CEO's and company presidents are dictating American policy to the detriment of the country.

Taking a look at the other axis on that graph is more telling.

Even though Regan raised it 17 times he still raised it less overall than any of the other presidents on that graph.

One other thing, isn't it usually the legislature that sets debt limits not presidents. So wouldn't it be better to show which party was in majority during the time period instead of president?

No way the House is going blue next election. The Senate has a better chance to go Red than for that to happen.

Economics really only makes sense if you look at things proportionally. By what % did Reagan raise it (or, more appropriately: "during Reagan's years in office")?

The plot is linear and so it disguises the fact that the GDP has grown immensely in the time covered, prices have inflated, and so forth and so on.

Reagan spent less on a gallon of milk, too, is what I'm trying to say. It's a weakness of that graph.

The GOP let Cruz and Rand push them off a cliff. Hilarious!

If only the American people could elect President Obamacare to a 3rd term. :(

Can't disagree with that, but most likely situation is House remains red and senate blue...so no change.

I do not care what effing color or party either house is just as long as we can have some work done. Bring down some entitlements, cut some corp funding, eliminate long term military contracts, have a long term funding, and tax reform...PLEASE!

Given the history of conservative electoral prognostication on this board, doesn't a pronouncement like this pretty much guarantee a Democratic House majority next year?

have a good weekend bobby :)

Silver chimes in on the issue!

Honestly, if Nate Silver and WOJ could report every piece of news ever, I would be a happy man.

By the way, the great Conservative Trucker Protest had about 30 rigs show up today to futilely circle the Beltway. When you've lost truckers, who can only listen to Rush when driving across broad stretches of the country, you know you're in trouble.

I always said it would be a heavy lift (yes, I joke/dream of taking the house), but gaining 10, 15 seats and maybe take down McConnell?

    Good enough for now.
