Yeah, I think you are over-thinking things here as other have said. Its just basic basketball strategy I was referring to here.

If they load up on Jeremy Lin on the perimeter and clog up the driving lane for him to make a move to the basket, they are going to have to give up something. The Rockets have other shooters who can make them pay for clogging the paint. That's a big reason why the Rockets were thrilled to the likes of Casspi for so cheap. The Rockets prepared for this knowing that teams would try and plan against clogging the lane. Ok... they will live with Parsons, Casspi, Garcia, Covington, etc. getting open 3's all day long.

And do the Pacers really want to leave Harden open from the outside if they are going to shade over to Lin's space on the floor?

All I'm saying is Im not too worried about the Pacers keying in on Lin here. I dont think Dwight, Harden, Chandler, and McHale care if the crowd is in a huge uproar or not anyways... its preseason.... you shouldn't need a standing ovation after every play to run your sets.

Well, the joke's going to be on Vogel if McHale "outsmarts" him by doing the same thing with Lin+Howard/Harden in the Pacers game as opposed to in the Pelicans game. Good luck doubling/tripling/limiting/PGeorging the guy standing in the corner without the ball.

    Hahaha.

Ah, I see how this works. I post something, you post something sarcastic, I post something showing how logically you're incorrect, then you personally attack me in an attempt to discredit my interest in basketball.

In debates we call this resorting to Ad Hominem attacks, a strategy that you use only when your logical line of reasoning begins to crumble.

This thread is about Lin, so the posts relate to Lin. Not that hard to understand.

Someone made a comment about Dwight vs Hibbert, I made a post about that too. I've also posted about McHale as well in the last couple of days.

The hot topic at the moment is Lin, so the posts are mostly about Lin, and considering your post counts about Lin as of late it seems a little bit of the pot calling the kettle black.

As for posts about Money, money is part of basketball. It impacts the ability of teams to recruit and go into the luxury tax. The Rockets organization is subject to analysis, both in basketball and business terms. This is a Rockets board after all.

Keep going though. Whatever makes you happy.

After all, I'm sure there are many topics of debate that are best settled through sarcasm and personal attacks.

Ah, I see how this works, you write more words than the other guy and ignore his point.

What McHale did had basketball value. Do you deny that?

Do you expect McHale to be fined by Stern?

Do you think Alexander is pissed at McHale for disobeying him?

Dude. McHale's decision was of the sort where the boss calls you in and says "Come on, don't do that." Then you look sheepish and say, "Sorry, boss. Won't happen again."

It wasn't a massive blunder. But that doesn't mean it was the right thing to have done.

You are so far off in left field right now it's ridiculous. You spend far too much of your time over analyzing everything. From reading your posts, it's obvious you're educated so it's difficult for me to understand you wasting so much time on baseless and trivial garbage. I get your a Lin fan but reign it in dude. You're writing novel responses to every post while trying to perpetuate that you have some knowledge of how the Rockets/NBA marketing campaign falls short based upon a coaching decision in preseason.

Take a break from the internet man

Bring it on. If Lin is going to be the All-Star that I think he is (since I first saw him play in college), he needs to be able to pass these tests and facilitate so that his teammates can beat the Pacers.

Yes, I 100% deny that. Name a single thing that was achieved in basketball terms that could NOT have been achieved by having Lin as an announced starter and subbing him out after 4 minutes?

Beverley still gets time with the starting unit. Lin still gets time with the bench unit. Chemistry still gets developed. The only difference is no questions from the media or 6 threads about it on CF.

Decision with no upside, all downside.

    Now you're being silly.

Alexander himself said he doesn't get involved in day to day decision making. I have no idea what Alexander is thinking, but if it was my money, I'd be wondering why he chose to make the change in the starting roster at that particular game when it was clear how much media coverage there was going to be.

I'll name a single thing that was achieved: McHale tested using Beverley as a starter.

    You wrote in this thread

    and

I will respond: whatever your marketing ideas, Stern does not care about the Beverley/Lin thing very much.

I respond: I guess we can agree that Alexander is all right with the decision too.

    Pacers look to limit Lin?

McHale faints, "that is my job!"

j/k aside, rooting for Lin to shine in Taiwan.

Take this with a grain of salt. The crowd will be awwww'd and amazed by every dunk or finger role that they see. And if your gameplan to beat the Rockets is to stop Lin, Harden and Howard will thank you later. Lastly, it's just a preseason game.

Wow, you were a pretty reasonable poster last year, and now you're a bat-guano crazy LOF. The single thing that could not have been achieved by having Lin as starter would be to have Beverley as starter.

I know you are crazy for your boy Lin and have forgotten the other PGs on the team are competing for the spot as well. Bev has a legitimate shot at it and the coach needs to see how that works. You don't save those kinds of experiments for the end of the season because there are a lot of moving parts - who starts at PF? what if the Rockets run different sets? at the start of the game? after establishing defensive presence?

There are a lot of moving parts McHale is trying to get in place in order to have a decent run this season and all you are worried about is that some Taiwanese flew to the Philippines and had to watch Lin play his minutes in a different order than he did the game before.

You do realize there is no way Lin starts all 82 games this year, right? How are you going to survive the season if you are this obsessed with Lin after the second preseason game?

    This whole thing is absurd.

Vogel was very careful about what he said, he never said Lin was a really good player, the focus of team defenses, etc. He answered a question about Jeremy Lin.

McHale's job is not marketing, but to get the most out of the players he has, and prepare his team to win a Championship. His job is not to give Jeremy Lin preferential treatment because the Rockets are playing a pre season game overseas.

Obviously McHale is tinkering with his starting line up potentially. The power forward and point guard positions are up in the air.

    McHale is doing his job.

Oh yea like western media doesn't embellish and instigate things to sell tickets and build hype. This is the nature of what the media does, which is to promote viewership. Media is media no matter what part of the world we're in and there are people everywhere that believe everything they are fed by the media. What's worse is ignorant trolls like you who like to stereotype and involve race into everything. Get a life dude.

Meaningless words from Vogel. It says nothing about his basketball playing skills, only that he is a popular icon.

I've learned my lesson with Yao when it comes to how much Stern cares manipulate star status of Asian players. I thought Yao would get star treatment in the NBA because of his ridiculous following at the time. And the fact that he was legitimately a star player. What was the result? Yao was one of the most unfairly officiated player in Rockets history. Dude was getting blood and not getting fouls called. On the flip side he gets called for breathing on other players. Heck, Cuban once whined a bit and Yao started getting called for moving screens, something that gets called as much as traveling in the NBA.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if Stern had no problem letting Yao geting beat up every game from lesser players who couldn't defend him straight up, he's not going to care about Lin not starting in a preseason game.
