    PG: Beverley
    SG: Harden
    SF: Parsons
    PF: whoever
    C: Howard

Is this a championship team? (No team won a championship by its 2nd unit)

Anyone who think Bev is good enough for this team is wrong. We need more talent. Our 1st unit is not good enough, while people starts to focus on improving our 2nd unit. Please remember the 2nd unit's job is to give the 1st unit some rest and hang on with the other team.

Lin is a better PG than Bev, so put Lin into the 2nd unit since he can help our 2nd unit. The logic give people an impression that Rockets already have a super strong 1st unit or Rockets need to rely on their 2nd unit to win a game.

If we do not want a champion, that is a different story.

So Beverley isn't good enough to be a championship team pg, but as long as we have Lin starting then "whoever" can be a starting pf on a championship caliber team? I haven't played organized bball since I was 15, but I'm relatively young at 26 and I have lots of heart. Don't mind that I am just under 6 feet tall... put me in at power forward coach!

    Yup.

Rule of thumb: Your opinion is never worth a new thread, especially on an existing topic of discussion.

Exception: Someone pays you to give your opinion on that very subject. (e.g. "I'm a foot doctor and Camby's injury in my medical opinion, sucks!" or "I'm the real Bill Worrell, and I think Lin should start!")

That is exactly my point. Since Bev is not good enough, why use so much time on who should start? We need to focus on what other pieces we can get to build a championship team.

    Funny stuff.

The debate is going to be settled (or not) by whatever happens on the court this season.

Never saw Argentinians or Ginobili fans cry like this even though he's way better than Lin. Y'all Lin fans are really ridiculous smh

Jonathan Feigen's take, from his blog:

    http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...n-taipei-after-lin-comes-off-bench-in-manila/

    [rquoter]
Both point guards played well, showcasing their strengths. In many ways, that might be where McHale chooses a starter. Lin is the better offensive player, Beverley the better defender. Either could start effectively, but the decision on a starter could come down to what McHale needs most off the bench, Lin’s aggressive, attacking offense or Beverley’s tight, irritating defense.

Do the Rockets need a jolt of scoring or of defense off the bench?

It might not be that simple. As with our discussion of the power forward decision, the most important consideration will likely be about the combinations on the court. Lin’s attacking style on pick-and-roll suits Dwight Howard well. He pushed the break extremely well last season – helping make the Rockets the second-fastest offense in the league – but has seemed even better on the run this season.

It can, however, be extremely valuable to have Beverley’s ball pressure on opposing point guards from the tip. And as the better scorer, Lin would have to defer less often off the bench.

The other consideration that could come into play might be Lin’s potential as a backup shooting guard. Even if he came off the bench, he could play 24 to 36 minutes if he added that to his point guard duties and be an option to finish games whether he starts them or not.[/rquoter]

I like the enthusiasm you've shown as a fan. And I expect the fun of debate to continue for as long as NBA exists.

I actually think this thread is potentially a good idea for the forum. Just move all the Lin vs Bev discussion into here, including the "how can McHale be so stupid/mean to not realize that Lin should be the starter" talk which, personally, I find the most annoying. That will clean up the rest of the board and allow us to focus on other things.

I think Lin's the better player and I would give him a real shot this year starting with Howard and Harden, but you can make the case that many championships have been won with a superstar facilitating wing and a PG that is really just a defensive specialist or spot up shooter--Lebron/Chalmers, Kobe/Fisher, Jordan(Pippen)/Armstrong.
